Identification of
Electronic Manufacturers by FCC Number
The manufacturer of an electronic device sold in the
United States can be identified by the FCC ID number. The first three characters of the
number identify the manufacturer (which may be different from the name on the unit). This
information can be very useful in electronic repair.
There are three ways to identify a manufacturer by the FCC
number:
- Call the FCC database in Washington, D.C.
- The FCC maintains a database that can be reached by phone
Monday through Thursday from 1400 - 1630 EST at 301-725-1585. You will reach an operator
who will access the database.
- Access the FCC database directly via modem
- You can access the FCC database 7 days a week, 24 hours a
day via dial-up modem at 301-725-1072. This is a much quicker way to get the information.
- Access
the FCC database information on line
- This site contains yearly database files (zipped .dbf)
since 1987. These files contain a lot of information that you do not need for repair and
each manufacturer is listed each time it submits a piece of equipment for certification by
the FCC. There is a lot of duplication and you must access a year that includes the the
manufacturer you want. The information is there but you must do some work to get it.
- Get a complete
list from AnaTek
- AnaTek has compiled a complete listing of the FCC numbers,
combining the files, eliminating unnecessary data and repetition. These lists are
available in Dbase (dbf), Rich Text Format (rtf), and Ascii Text (txt) files. The files
currently contain the FCC number and complete addresses of 5,437 manufacturers. We will
email these files to you. Just email Anatek
requesting the FCC list and specify the file type (dbf, rtf or txt) you want. We must
charge $7.00 each to defer ERC operating costs. Include your
Visa/MasterCard/Discover/American Express account number and expiration date or if you
prefer, FAX the information to 603-673-5374 in the United States. We will email your copy
of the list within 24 hours on weekdays and the next business day on weekends and US
holidays.
