QUESTION NO. P082503-8:
Magnavox 6P5441 C103 projection TV does not power up. I changed
the fuse with no change. R416 was burned on the large signal
board. Could replacing this solve my problems? What other
issues may I encounter? No other components seems to defective.
|
|
To answer this
question."Could replacing this part[R416] solve this problem".
The answer is NO. The reason why the resistor burn and decrease in
value is because the wattage value was larger than the value of the
resistor value. If it was a 1/2watt resistor and wattage goes
above that value for a giving point of time your resistor will burn
until it is burnt open. Look for a Elect. capacitor somewhere
close by and check it. Check for component that could be shorted.

| QUESTION NO. P71003-1: Hitachi 46ux7b projection TV Chassis AP13, sound is ok but images on picture look smeared, almost like a bas-relief look. Also, the luma signal looks a little low and when the crosshatch gen. is connected to the video- in port, the vertical lines are clearly visible but not the horizontal ones. |
|
Take out the comb filter and
replace the surface mount electrolytic capacitors (I think there were
around 4 of them) on the comb filter and put it back in the
motherboard. MCM sells a kit If I'm not mistaken with capacitors
that fix this problem as well as the picture in picture problem which
these same sets have.

| QUESTION NO. P50903-4: Mitsubishi TS-4545 projection TV has faint pink bars and lines horizontally across all of screen. Seems to change when channel or scene changes. Tried PIP (935D2860) repair with replacement of caps, problem still exist. Have resoldered a number of spots with no results. |
|
Replaced electrolytic capacitors
in the power supply section. I started with replacing (2) 860uf
180v caps just after the bridge rectifier and continued along the
circuit. Some (15) or so capacitors later, it finally cleared the the
horizontal bars and lines and the high pitched noise. It also fixed
another intermediate problem of no video, when turning on the power.

QUESTION NO. P31903-1: Sony
KP-65XBR10W TV has no picture, no audio, Timer/Stand By light flashes
constantly, single blink about one blink/second, no indictor, just
steady single blink. Television will not reset when unplugged as
Sony has said should happen in the in the manual. When plugged in
there is one immediate click sound and the light goes back to flashing.
|
|
The steady blinking light means
there is no specific code. Sony authorized repair said the
double-side board (the one lying flat/horizontal just to the right of
the vertical power supply board which has the fuses) has a burnt
transistor (the one with the sizable heat sink on it, at the back left
corner when looking at the board from the rear of the TV). It is
blowing the (non-power supply) fuse.

QUESTION NO. P21203-3:
Magnavox RJ8550 projection TV with shorted Q10's on the power and
deflection boards, along with Q11 on the deflection board and a 1.8 Ohm
18W resistor. Now I have the same problem as another tech with the
resistance between TP3 and TP7 on the power board reading about 12K
instead of over 100K. My flyback has no label any more and I don't
know which one this model would use. I've read it needs either a
362003-6 or 362003-7. How do I figure out which one it needs?
|
|
You have the PTV325 chassis and
uses the APW009B002 Power supply. After you make repairs you can
remove the 4A AC fuse and jumper a 150W light bulb across it. When
set is turned on and no shorts are present, the bulb will glow. If
it comes on bright, immediately turn off TV. More work needs to be
done. If when Negative lead of VOM is connected to TP3 and the Positive
lead to TP7 and with Plug P108 unplugged from power supply panel you
have a low ohms reading, be sure to check D20 with one side lifted out
of board. It is in series with a small RF choke and will read
shorted if not unsoldered.

QUESTION NO. P10303-8:
Magnavox PTV750-AH0l 1996 projection TV reported having made popping
sounds periodically. The latest resulted in the blue convergence
offset 6-8 inches vertically and cannot be adjusted. Have
resiliconed the Anode lead, but cannot find the convergence problem.
|
|
On the blue crt below the glass
tube you will fine two metal tabs. By sliding the metal tabs (they move
in a circular pattern) you can re-center the crt with a little
experimentation. Then follow the convergence procedure to complete the
repair. When you resiliconed the anode lead you may have moved the metal
tabs from their previous position.

| QUESTION NO. P91802-10: Sears Lxi 626.54471950 projection TV Chassis ptv 340 by Magnavox. In the standby power supply the +11dc source is+ 6.5 dc, can lift L458 and goes back up to +11dc. the +11dc source goes to the +5 dc reg IC305 and the low b+ detector Q301 for the reset of the micro. Replaced IC305 still 6.5 dc. Q301 is good ,checked all caps. Lifting L458 removes the +5 dc for the micro and turns on Q464 power on/off - set will power up and has high voltage, but no functions since the micro is dead, so this must omit any problems with the other boards. The +11 dc is used only in the defection/signal board. |

| QUESTION NO. P91902-8: Zenith PVR4660VK projection TV is dead, no picture no sound. Replaced burnt resistor in location in CRX3401 with 10K 1/2 watt (not able to match badly burnt). Picture and sound back but later on faded and became dark. Sqirh off and on again picture stays good for 5 minutes and lost. Sound stays OK. |
| CRX3401 is the chassis designator for bridge rectifier in the power supply. Check your board again for correct resistor designator. Zenith always uses Rxxxx or RXxxxx. |
| QUESTION NO. P91802-3: Zenith rz56z83d8 projection TV, cannot adjust the convergence, plus a big pincushion and bowtie problem on the four sides of the screen. I replaced R3243 and R3244 on the 9-1674 board, but still does not correct the problem, I can see the numeric values changing on the screen but with no correction of the problem. |
| Check the four 1 ohm resistors on the 9-1690 convergence module. If any are burned open, you may have to replace the 9-1690. |
| QUESTION NO. P82102-10: Zenith z50z83r7 projection TV. Found 1ohm resistors bad on 9-1690 board have not been able to find the 110k resistor on the daughter board. The two sks modules on the 1690 should they be replaced ? What causes the 1 ohm resistors to burn up? |
| The 1690 module should be replaced when 1 ohm resistors keep opening. Much faster and easier. The 110k resistor is located on the 9-1674 module beneath a larger resistor found near the corner of the daughter board, also near where the horizontal yoke connectors are plugged in. |

| home.mindspring.com/~wa6ati then click on "TSS log for Sony". |
| QUESTION NO. P70302-3: Sony kpr46ex20 projection TV has good focus on red and blue. I try focusing the green on the focus block and lens, but it is not as sharp as the blue and green. Once in a while I hear a small pop. The power board is missing C614, what is its capacitance? |
| That is a typical problem that is answered already in some of the faqs - green fluid. |
| QUESTION NO. P73102-6: Sony KPR-41EXR95 projection TV with a convergence problem. I'm trying to locate the STK's IC and the fuse on the convergence board. |
| The fuses are either front behind the speaker or in the back on the right side. Be careful to unhook all the wire ties before unscrewing the chassis screws. Check all solder joints and b+ resistors. |
| Answering my own question. Located on D board of the front panel. Replaced both STK 4278L and C1747, C1715, C1744 and C1745. I also replaced the voltage regulator IC903, IC904, IC905 and IC906. Set is working great. All these parts are bought from MCM electronics. I tried to order the STK4278L from Sony, but the price is outrageous, $62.00 compare to $13.00 I spent at MCM |
| QUESTION NO. P70302-9: Magnavox PTV780 AH01 projection TV chassis 7P6051-C101 manual is 7566. Need value and type of C811 on large signal board. This cap glows red when TV is powered up. Anything else I should look for before power up after I replace this cap? |
| Capacitor value is 330pf, replaced and Tv operates perfectly. |
| QUESTION NO. P52802-8: Toshiba tp50h15 projection TV, the led will start to blink when the power button is pressed. I took it apart and cleaned it, put it back together and it fired up. The convergence was off. powering down and trying to power back up gave me the front panel led blinking again. The power board which has the power transformer has a set of wires that go to the convergence circuit. If I disconnect this cable the unit will power up. Of course the convergence is all messed up because its missing its voltages, 30 18 18 give or take. The transformer T862 has an open winding. I have continuity on all marked windings, for the exception of one. I also need info. on how to get into the service mode. |
| The problem was in the convergence amps. stk's. |
| QUESTION NO. P52102-4: Zenith PVY6067DT projection TV started having intermittent convergence problems then became permanent. There is a white horizontal convergence line but with yellow tips on each end. The vertical convergence line is yellow. When separated, there are the red and green lines. In promo setup the red convergence screen has normal red text at top. But in the blue convergence screen, I can hardly read the blue text. Picture has blue outlines on white objects and blueing effect on light screens. |
| Replace 120k resistor on the blue video output module. Resistor is located next to the blue video output transistor (has heat sink). If you replace it with a 1/2 watt carbon type, it will probably never happen again. I always replace the same resistor on the red and green video boards at the same time. |
| QUESTION NO. P41902-10: Magnavox PR3952B102 projection TV chassis PTV520-AH01. For T900=flyback transformer, 1)are pins 1, 3, 6 of the flyback supposed to be shorted together (are they 1 winding or several)? 2)which pins on the flyback are supposed to be grounded? 3)what is the Philips/Magnavox & generic part # for T900=flyback transformer? 4) What would cause the B+ of the HOT transistor to be shorted to ground only besides T900=flyback being the culprit? |
| 1)Pin 1 & 3 are primary, pin 6
is secondary winding (HEW pulse) & supposed to be a separate winding. 2)pins 5,7 & 13 are supposed to be grounded. 3)The old Philips/Magnavox part #'s for the flyback are 364071-1/4/5/6/7 the new Philips/Magnavox part #'s for the flyback are 4835 140 67102 4835 140 67128. 4)T900 is this case is the culprit causing the B+ of the HOT to be shorted to grounded. |
| QUESTION NO. P41502-4: Panasonic PTJ-4064RC projection TV chassis yamedp804 with a very dim picture. Does any know what crts are in this unit? I want to test them with the Sencore but cannot find any numbers to look up. |

| QUESTION NO. P41702-4: Mitsubishi VS-6002R project TV. Installed flyback, TV has power, however no sound, only a horizontal line across the screen. |
| Replace all electrolytic capacitors in the vertical section along with the vertical output IC & the low ohms fuseable resistor connected to the vcc of vert o/p IC leading back to the flyback, That will allow the TV to operate normally which should also restore sound believe it or not. |
| QUESTION NO. P326-6: Magnavox Projection TV RJ8530AK01 is dead. Asked about this earlier and was referred to answer to Question No. P1120-4 as this was a similar problem answer. Q10 and Q11 on the power supply module were both shorted as was the transistor Q10 on the deflection panel. They have all been replaced. The diodes D13 and D14 are good. Following the procedure for identifying a short location via TP3 and TP7, I still have about 8.1k on the DMM, not the >100k that was indicated that I should get with or without the P108 plugged in on the power supply panel. I am reluctant to just plug the set in and try it for fear that I may instantly blow the new transistors that were quite difficult to get in the first place. |
| Since you are getting only 8.1k ohm whether or not P108 is plugged in indicates a short on the Power Supply panel. Your decision to not power up the TV did prevent shorting out those parts replaced. If Q10; Q11 and Q14 on the Power supply panel were shorted to begin with, T4 Flyback is the most probable cause. The entire panel must then be replaced. Otherwise, a component on that board is pulling down the 130v B+ Check Q14, D20, D29 and D12. Q10 on Power supply has a part number from Sears; 46-862124-3, or 6105400001. Q10 on Deflection panel is 46-862126-3, or 6104330004. |
| If your flyback is bad (the white flyback), this is a very common problem with this chassis. If the flyback is bad, they CAN be found at MCM electronics.if your flyback is white, then it is either 362003-6, or 362003-7 depending on your model number/tubes. |
| QUESTION NO. P311-3: Pioneer sd-p5073 projection TV, picture bowed in on sides like pincushion problems. Convergence off on sides, raster too wide. Changed both stk4277 and 4274, checked resistors and soldered connections on power hv board. Checked voltage sources. The horizontal size and skew bow pin pots on convergence board have no effect. |
| Replace High Voltage Distributor. |
| QUESTION NO. P314-9: Magnavox RJ8530AK01 Projection TV is dead. Checked the transistors on the power supply board and found the Q11 (Philips part number BU508V) was shorted. Ordered the new part and would like some insight of other areas to check if this is not the total problem here. Also, cooling fluid is bad and need some source for material and procedure for changing. |
| Check in "Projection Television Repair" question P1120-4. You have the same chassis--PTV325. As far as changing the cooling fluid, I have replaced the fluid in many of these TV's and it's quite an involved process. I don't know if space here would permit me to go through a step-by-step procedure. I know of no place to get the information other than Sam's Photofacts. If it's done improperly, you could have fluid leaking on the main board and/or have the convergence out of alignment. Check out the above answered question before replacing any parts on the power supply or deflection boards. |
| QUESTION NO. P311-8: Zenith PVR4660VK Projection TV. The AC 4 amp fuse blew up. I removed the high circuit board to repair a cold solder of a voltage regulator (9520). I did some dust cleaning inside the TV box and replace the circuit board back then powered up. TV started put some how some thing happened. The picture having three layers and if a text is displayed it is curved up. I try to readjust vertical and horizontal pots, put it did not help. I degaussed the TV set, it did not help. I ran the convergence setup using remote control; I noticed it is completely off. Blue, Green and Red are not aligned and off by few degrees from vertical and horizontal. I try using remote control to readjust red and blue but it did not even moved. I try to get them in place by moving the magnets ring around the CRT. I was able to align red and green or blue and green, but not able to align three of them. |
| Check for 1 ohm resistors on 9-1690 board for open. R4162, R4163, R1460 and R4161. If okay change R3243 (110kohm) on the 9-1674 module. This resistor is hard to find. Mounted beneath R3204 near corner of daughter board. |
| QUESTION NO. P312-5: Zenith PVY5264DT projection TV with SMPS/sweep module 9-1674-01. Set comes on with tuner and audio working good, but has no video. No b+ at HOT but have 160v at Drain of QX3402. CRT's are not lit and no HV. I checked what seems to be all caps and resistors associated with this circuit. |
| Check HOT for short QX3201, and CR3412 for short. If so, the flyback transformer has failed. Very common failure with Zenith projection sets. |
| See if the Horiz. out is good. If it is, then for safety measures, change that mosfet. If it does not fire up consider that the flyback is defective including some surrounding components. |
