QUESTION NO. P60302-4:  Sony KV-27TS35 TV has bad audio with Cable but perfectly ok audio/video with VCD/DVD connected thru RJ connectors in the back of the TV.  This query is for clarification based on previous Q/A P1130-9 and P117.  Are the identified parts for different makes (RCA vs/ Sony) interchangeable while there is a significant price difference?
Yes, all of the Sony US Sound Multiplexing MTS stereo modules are the same,  Some have 8 tiny smt electrolytic caps while others have 10 but all are the same,  Many manufacturers have purchased these modules from Sony, for a complete list of equivalent part #'s visit read this article contributed by me (Sidney Karam) to Nesda and written by Joe Sopko www.iwaynet.net/~nesda/May18.html.

QUESTION NO. P50902-9:  Sony KV-27XBR96S TV had intermittent picture then no raster but good hv and good sound.  All tuner and related circuits are ok g2 voltage is ok.  Checked the blanking circuit to no avail.
Check to see if your CRT heaters are working (visual), if not check for the presence of 6.3AC rms on CRT board. If not present chase wiring back to main board, checking solder joints/resistors along path. The heater voltage is usually derived from a winding on the flyback transformer secondaries. If using a scope you will be looking for a flyback pulse. If using other than an RMS meter you will be looking for a voltage reading within 1-1.5 volts of the 6.3 volts.

QUESTION NO. P52002-9:  Symphonic SC319A TV/VCR.  How do I enter the service mode?
members.accessus.net/~090/awh/how2adj.html#5.11, qualitytuner.hypermart.net/codes.htm, es.geocities.com/Dudaelectronica/modosdeservicios.htm, www.repairfaq.org/REPAIR/F_tvfaqb.html#TVFAQB_006.

Resolder degauss thermistor located in power supply near ac cord, open remote control apart and wash the rubber keypad with soap and a sponge, clean the remote pcb with Q-tips and Windex or any window cleaner, check solder connections of remote control at batt contacts and crystal and IR LED.

QUESTION NO. P328-7:  Sony KV32S10 TV has intermittent shutdown and pulses.
Measure B+ at flyback B+ pin if absent, replace flyback Sony # 1-453-146-21.  If flyback ok then replace PM501=protector module Sony # 1-810-061-11 located in D board.

QUESTION NO. P40302-1:  KV27v10 TV is dead.  Replaced the converters Q601 and Q602 (both shorted) as well as R607 (open).  The Horizontal Transistor was replaced (shorted).  Reflowed all transformer solder joints.  Set still dead.  The 14v standby is there now, but appears as though the set is still in protect mode.  T604 has ~23v on primary but not much on secondary (2.2v on some points of the secondary).  The relay will not close on the primary side of T604.  No voltage drop across the relay diode.
In D board, replace IC501=vertical o/p IC=Sony # 8-759-980-58=Generic # TDA8172.

QUESTION NO. P329-9:  Proscan CTC169EJ5 TV. CRT has bleeding colors like bad CRT, but CRT checks good on checker.
Try replacing filter capacitor for 200V supply to the CRT driver Xistors, C4703 47mf. 250V (located on main board).

QUESTION NO. P40502-5:  GE chassis ctc175a TV has a thin horizontal light across the CRT.
Check voltage at pin #1 of U4501 (Vertical Output IC).  Should be 24.8V. If 0V replace U4501 (PT #215531), and R4511, 1ohm/2W (PT# 215577).  If 24.8V is OK, Pin 17 of U1001 should be scoped for proper vertical output signal. Most often, U4501 shorts and opens R 4511.

QUESTION NO. P41202-6:  Sony KV-27TX40 TV.  I need the values for R650 and R605.
R605 and R650 each are 220 0hms/20W.

QUESTION NO. P327-10:  JVC C-14ET1EK TV was dead.  I changed the c912 and the power is now ok but no picture.  I changed Horizontal output transistor C5250 and flyback FCK14A028 but still no picture.  At the output, there is about 118v.
Horizontal pulses are provided by IC301 pin 41.  Power supply for this IC is +/-112V reduced by series resistor R323 (6k8 5W) to about 9V arriving at pin 42.

QUESTION NO. P40902-6:  Toshiba CF1311J TV Chassis 8930 has vertical deflection on top half of screen but not the bottom.  I changed all (3xx) caps in the vertical area, checked all resistors, caps, and also changed the IC with diode across IC.  VCC checks well on the IC.
Change C301 & C305=1uf or 2.2uf, 50v both are red colored or brown colored Elna brand radial electrolytic capacitors, one is located near thr color processor and one near IC301=AN5515 or 21=vertical output IC.

QUESTION NO. P41002-8:  Toshiba 2050re TV, when switched on, black raster with a faint thin line in the middle of screen.  I changed the vertical IC with 2 brown elna brand caps (50v 1uf) with the same prefix as the IC.  Now the thin line in the middle of screen turns brighter orange.
Replace the low ohms fusible resistor connected from the vcc pin of IC301 back to a rectifier diode which then leads back to the flyback.

QUESTION NO. P41002-3:  What is the service code to enter service mode on Panasonic TC21S15R TV?
www.calanan.com/panasonic.

QUESTION NO. P40502-3:  Toshiba CF2768B TV, when powered up originally, it had the typical vertical output problem.  I replaced C305 & C342 Elna caps with the respective 2.2uf & 1uf caps. Now the image comes up with black bars (approx 6 inches) across the top & bottom. By adjusting the R352 (Height Varistor) to the max, the image still has about 1 inch or so of black on top & bottom, & can see the closed caption info band across the top. I also resoldered the IC301 & checked several of the caps in the vertical section.
Replace C301=1 or 2.2 uf,50v and make sure that C305 is also correct as I have sometimes put in a 1 uf,50v by mistake when the original defective one was actually a 2.2 uf,50v.

QUESTION NO. P40202-4:  I need to reduce the vertical picture on a Toshiba CF3060K TV.  There is no adjustment.
Replace C301 & C305=1uf or 2.2 uf,50v red/brown colored electrolytic caps one is located near the color processor & one near  IC301=vertical output IC.

QUESTION NO. P40202-10:  Zenith SG3451T TV intermittently displays the number 800 followed by a bar graph at the top of the screen and other various fields with bar graphs as well.  The picture quality is fine otherwise.
Resolder connections to the ZCU ic found beneath the pip daughter board located on the 9-700-xx module.  Common problem with zenith digital sets.  A lot of disassembly is required, be careful pulling connectors.

QUESTION NO. P31-2:  Hitachi 2750 TV.  Require pin out of IC HA11511NT.  IC not providing horz out, is IC defective or is VCC not present?
I have had to replace this ic numerous times. It just seems to fail whenever.  99% of the time the set stays working too.

QUESTION NO. P312-3:  Sears 564-42904850 TV does not start up, power supply seems ok, b+ at regulator.
Check Hold-down circuit as follows With TV off, short pin #4 of IC401 to ground.  If set powers up OK, the hold-down circuit is defective and shutting down the sweep circuit.  Turn off TV and remove short (not removing short can cause radiation hazard from excessive high voltage).  Turn set back on and check voltage at pin #4 of IC401.  It should read 0.2v.  If voltage is high, check the B+ at the cathode of D032.  It should be 129/132 volts. If too high, replace Regulator B001.  If hold-down circuit and B+ are OK, check 20v source at D031 and R031.  Also check Q403 H. driver, base 0.4v and collector 41.2v.  Check supply voltages from flyback, 15v at D496, and 26v at D495.

QUESTION NO. P311-6:  Phillips Magnavox TS2754C101 TV will not power up.  Push power button , relay clicks and power LED lights for 1 second then relay clicks again.
Check to see if the Horizontal Output Transistor has shorted between Emitter and Collector.  Also verify that there is dioding between these two terminals. High resistance one way, lower the other. The difference is usually at least a factor of 8.  If the HOT is okay, start checking the main power supply board for a shorted eletrolytic.

QUESTION NO. P313-3:  Sony KV27TS29 TV lost power while operating.  Input fuse OK.  This happened 3 months ago and fixed by replacing Q601, Q602, & Horiz output with Sony parts.  I have not checked these replacements yet, but think I missed something else with the original fix.
Good chance R607 is also open but to prevent repeat failure, resolder connections on the horz drive transformer.

QUESTION NO. P313-9:  Sony KV27V10 TV.  Replace Q601, 602, R607 & HOT.  Unit will play for a short period of time, pop same parts bad again.  Part of the time unit will pop immediately after parts are replaced.  Have two doing this.
Besides replacing those components make sure you resolder the horizontal drive transformer connections.

QUESTION NO. P37-5:  Wespointtv-9951a TV, what would be the X.ref for transistor SSP7N60A?
Possible substitutes for SSP7N60A include IRFB9N60A or IRFBC40A, both listed by Digikey (www.digikey.com), or possibly NTE2379.  Also, Fairchild has replaced the original SSP7N60A, with its device, SSP7N60B.

QUESTION NO. P220-3:  Symphonic SC3619 TV/VCR.  I have been unable to locate the cassette LED locally.  I need the specifications for this LED (voltage, etc.) or a Radio Shack p/n that will work in place of a manufacture's part.
Most LEDs operate within a given voltage range, and a radio shack unit that is of comparable size should be just fine.  These types of sets do not normally usually expensive or exotic discretes so there should be no problem.

QUESTION NO. P221-2:  RCA F26634SF / CTC187AB TV has no sound and no video with only the "no vert sweep " line.  I have done the tuner wrap on it and replaced the eprom.  All voltages seem normal.
Look for a cold solder joint in the vertical drive, as well as in the area around the low voltage power supplies, also check the inductors in the vertical drive for a cold solder joint where windings attach to pins, as well as any transistors in the vertical drive section.  See if there is a short in that area too, there may be a fuse, or fusible resistor to the vertical drive and audio stages that is shared by the two.  Also check the power handling inductors for a possible cold solder joint where the windings connect to the pins that pass through the PC board.  If the set uses a switching type of power supply, (it should) check the caps in the power supply providing the low voltage to the audio and video processing IC's, and check the regulators/zeners (actually check the voltage immediately after them).

QUESTION NO. P225-10:  Zenith Sentry 2 TV has horizontal lines through picture after warm-up.  Problem is temporarily fixed with changing of brightness and contrast.
The horizontal lines are probably the retrace lines resulting from an inadequate blanking signal.  If you are not able to adjust blanking, try reducing the AGC setting slightly.

QUESTION NO. P27-10:  Sanyo avm2151u TV has a flat horizontal line in middle of screen, rest is blacked out.  Every capacitor, transistor and diode seem ok in the area.  Could it be the HOT?  There is also a sip ic LA7837 which I don't know what it is in the area.
LA7837 is vertical out IC.  Measure each pin, look for B+ (26-33V) on some of the pins.  If not there, look for approximately 1 ohm open resistor, B+ on one side only. If B+ is present on the IC, consider replacing the IC. After that, replace any red/brown electrolytic caps (1MFD, 2.2MFD, 35-50V) in vertical circuit.

QUESTION NO. P921-3:  Just beginning to work on TV's.  Recently a new TV/VCR (one-piece set) was stored in a basement which flooded, submerging the TV/VCR for days. Of course, nothing works.  Before I decide what to do, is there any chance that it is easily fixed (with the replacement of maybe a few small parts.)?
NOPE!  Any conductive material that has coated the pcbs must be removed, requiring removal of all components on the pcb and then chemically cleaning it. Then, checking each item and replacing them in the correct location.   Not to mention the havoc this kind of thing will have in the mechanics of the video section.
I have a feeling that you are really going to get your feet wet on this one.  OK, pull out the circuit boards and wash them with a stiff brush in clean water. Air dry completely! Then check them over very carefully with a magnifying glass, especially the solder joints and copper runs. Does anything look corroded? Are the solder joints a very dull or black color? I had a set where the jumper leads on the top of the board were green and the solder joints were black, but with many diligent hours of cleaning solder pads with a fiberglass brush and resoldering, it was able to be saved.

QUESTION NO. P87-9:  Have a Funai 13" TV/VCR Combo 13FIII.  Receiving power from cord.  No picture or sound from TV portion.  Tape In keeps flashing in the display but there is not a tape inside the VCR. Also, when I push the power button, it automatically shuts down. The TV/VCR also seems to have a delay in power to all once the set is plugged in.
Look for cracked traces at the pins of the regulator transistors on the power supply PCB.

QUESTION NO. P221-5:  AWA Thorn C6334 TV, the bottom half of the screen is black to a thin horizontal line in the middle.  Above this horizontal line the image is just oblique lines.  The sound is ok.  This very similar to previous questions (Q P126-6 and P1029-3) but they refer to different brands.  I replaced all electrolytic caps on the main chassis.
Sounds like scan lines.  I think the LOPT, Line Output Transformer, needs replacing.  It has two knobs, one for brightness and the other for focus, usually says it on it.  Also there is high tension lead that goes into the back of the TV screen itself, it's made of rubber, and looks like a suction thingy.  *****Before removing this, get a screw driver and a attach a lead, or wire to the metal part.  Then attach the other end of that wire to EARTH, somewhere.  Make sure you are only touching the handle of the screw driver, wear rubber gloves if necessary, and stick the screw driver in and under the suction thingy, you should hear a crack, or pop.  When the crack or pop is heard, it is safe to disconnect the LOPT.  If you don't hear a crack or pop, then maybe the LOPT has discharged itself, if you haven't had the TV on for ages.  After that de-solder the LOPT and replace it.
Check the vertical circuit first.  Look for 1mfd and 2.2mfd 35v-50v caps and change them.

QUESTION NO. P124-8:  RCA CTC169CA5 TV when turned on, I hear a click and then it turns off.  I checked for cold solder joints and checked the standby 15V (TP 4103) and I get 8 - 17V.  Also, I hear a buzz noise that follows the spikes in the stdby voltage.  The Reg B+ is also spiking between 180 - 187V.
cr 4118 should have about 13.5vdc at standby.  If you press power, and the voltage drops the diode is at fault.  I usually replace cr4118 on all ctc169's.  Your standby regulated voltage should be corrected to about 140vdc before you fire the set up.  All elecrolytics around u4101 should be replaced.  Replacing c4401 and c4402 would be a good idea, too.  Run regulated voltage is 143vdc.

QUESTION NO. P221-7:  Proscan CTC169BK TV is dead.  B+ raw is 158VDC and B+ regulated is 162VDC in standby.  Replaced C4151, CR4122, C4108, CR4101, C4104, C4102, CR4123, C4401, C4403, C4402.  No change in voltages.  Have not tried U4101, but it seems to be working.  Voltage at pin 16 is 11.2VDC, but voltage at pin 15 is a little low 8.5VDC.  Chopper Q4101 appears to be fine and outputting. HOT Q4401 collector has same voltage 162VDC and appears to be fine.  Secondary voltages on T4102 appear to be fine, but yet the B+ regulated is still too high.  Press power on button and just get clicking sound.  Also noticed that RT4201 had one lead broken for Degauss circuit.
Check cr4118, it should be at about 13.5vdc at standby.  When you press the power button, does the voltage drop?  Also clean up u4101 circuit.  All electrolytics around it should be replaced.  The set may be going into shutdown.  Standby regulated voltage should be about 140vdc.  Run regulated voltage is 143vdc.  I would not try to fire her up until you get the standby voltage corrected.

QUESTION NO.    Magnavox TV Chassis #25P606-00AA with wiggling on the sides of the screen.  Looks like a vertical problem. Fixed four bad ones solder joints near the VOT <Vertical Output Transistor>.
Check all the caps in the horizontal circuit with an ESR meter.  Especially check for a bad C432 by the FBT.  Wiggling on the sides usually indicates problems in the horizontal deflection circuit instead of the vertical circuit.  Also make sure to check the solder joints on this board very carefully, they are notoriously bad for cold joints.
Check or look for a 100MFD electrolytic cap in the horizontal circuit.

QUESTION NO. P130-5:  GE RCA TV Chassis Ctc 175L when unit is cold the picture and sound operate fine for approximately 5 minutes or less.  Then it loses all channels as if the cable wire is disconnected.  I resoldered all tuner grounds and all the processor ground around U1001v (La 7610) no change.  Also resoldered the white wire leaving the tuner section and going toward the front of the chassis, no change.  Also need to know how to get in the service alignment section to write down all the values of the eprom.  I know about pressing and holding menu, press and hold power release the hit volume + and advancing to V 76 but I need some help to get into the other areas of the eprom to write the info down.
Refer to instructions and table written on parts location diagram mounted inside back of set.  You may also want to embody technical bulletin # 97-003 for television.

QUESTION NO. P212-5:  Philips TS2744 C106 TV chassis 27B700-7562 was hit by power surge.  I need the value of C506 which was fried.
Service manual lists C506 as 680pf 2kv ceramic disc for 25" and 27" models, and C506 is 1000pf 2kv for models with A68AHD32X crt.

QUESTION NO. P27-4:  Philips 28PT4521 (Chassis MD1.1) TV has no video, sound and OSD is OK.  Video processor TDA8366,  C2122 and C2143 replaced.
Resistor 3450 (68 Kohm) on main board is o/c.

QUESTION NO. P26-2:  Mitsubishi cs-26201 TV has a large black square that covers almost all the screen.  If volume up or down is pressed, the square disappears for 3 seconds, then it comes.

QUESTION NO. P123-2:  Toshiba CX28409 TV Chassis TAC8915.  Replaced IC301, vert O/P (AN5521), diode, resistor off flyback (26V supply), all electrolytic caps in vert circuit.  No bottom deflection, top of pix overlapped severely.  The vertical windings of the yoke measure 4 ohms. The yoke is bonded to the CRT (made by RCA).
Replaced C301 - Cap checked good - substitute a new one as a test - C301 is 2.2 uf/50V.

QUESTION NO. P114-2:  Zenith SR2773DT TV shows a good color bar pattern with my color generator.  But tuning in a golf game the green golf course is light brown.  I also cannot get a good greyscale.  Collector voltages on Xisters are correct--248V.  On the CRT board, the 250VDC supply is filtered through a 1mfd/315V cap and a 330 microhenry coil (which were replaced to no avail) then to all driver collectors.  It is on this end of the coil that the RF ripple appears on the scope.  It is there when the CRT board is on or off the tube, and even with the CRT socket off the board it is there.  The R and B output pins on the video output IC show a normal waveform on the scope.  The G output pin shows evidence of high freq. oscillations and a lower Peak-to-Peak waveform.  The video chip was replaced with no improvement. I cannot understand why the green off the colorbar generator looks good on the screen but the green in a regular picture does not.
I'm not familiar with the set you speak of but the problem sounds familiar and it was with several small 19 inch with remote Zenith's.  What solved the problem was removing the tuner, pulling the cover to the solder joint side and with an eye lope magnifying glass 4X to 8X in power and in very good lighting mark every bad solder joint for resoldering. When I had finished I had resoldered 27 bad joints in one tuner alone.

QUESTION NO. P117-1:  Panasonic CT32S20U TV, Ch. ANEDP275, Picture cutoff 1/4" on right side of CRT.  Original problem shorted rectifiers and regulator, cold solder joints.  Sweep linear, purity and convergence OK.  Horizontal centering?
I have most often found this to be the small 160v caps in the horz sweep are starting to dry up.

QUESTION NO. P114-8:  Mitsubishi CS-3104RA TV, there is a horizontal area about 2 inches wide in the center of the screen that is not scanning properly.  The scan lines are spread apart.  The rest of the screen top and bottom is working perfectly at this time.  After about 1-2 minute warm up, the center of the screen clears up and the bottom of the screen now has about a half inch wide area of improper scanning.  Tried freezing the individual components and tapping for the usual cold solder joints.
It was a 100 Microfarad polarized 35 volt cap at C4E5 which is in close proximity to the LA7838 Vertical deflection output IC.  I replaced it with a 50 volt one and it works perfectly.

QUESTION NO. P111-4:  Magnavox 27y105-00aa TV has blown R432, I need the value.
The value of R3432 is 1K. After replacing resistor, replace the stk30130.
I have found on a very similar 27in. Mag, after replacing vert out IC and 1ohm r, that there was 60 cycles floating in the picture and that b+ reg was too high (156v) and TV did not shut down.  Changed 100mfd/200v cap in hor out area fixed both.

QUESTION NO. P831-1:  Mitsubishi CS-35301 TV loses vertical hold.  I changed tuner, some filters and some ICs besides the tuner.
Does this model have PIP ( Picture-In-Picture ) ? If so, the trouble is leaky surface-mount electrolytic caps on the PIP board, especially any 4.7uf and 10uf components. Look carefully under these caps for corrosion/trace damage.  Best way to test them is with an ESR meter, or replace ALL of them! ( Sync, both vert. and horiz., goes through the PIP board at all times, regardless of the PIP function being used or not. )

QUESTION NO. P823-10:  JC Penny 685-4120 TV will have a perfect picture one second then the screen turns blue with faint horizontal lines.  It will stay blue a while then return to a picture, the audio is always consistent.
If it is a bright blue pix with retrace lines then the problem is most likely a heater to cathode short on the blue gun of the crt.  You can be sure by tapping on the neck lightly.  Problem can be solved by installing an isolation transformer booster available from most parts places.

QUESTION NO. P823-5:  Magnavox TV chassis 26g1-01 keeps shorting horiz. output.
If you have checked things in the drive circuit like the decoupling cap in the primary of the drive transformer, then make sure the transistor is the exact part from the factory.  I have had cases where the horiz out runs hot or blows after a short while only to find out the transistor was a counterfeit.  They look like the real thing and have the same number on them but are bad.  I am selective of the vendors I use but once in a while even a good vendor can come up with a bad part.

QUESTION NO. P81-6:  Sony KV-27V15 TV.  I need the value of R687.
R687 6.8 ohms 5% 1W Nonflammable Sony part # 1-216-359-00 NTE part # 1w6d8.

The output voltage at pin 21, 22 and 23 must be 5.5 V.  Therefore, LA 7680 IC is faulty.

QUESTION NO. P89-3:  Sharp 27j-s100 TV.  The vertical ic burn't out.  The replacement corrects the set 100% but gets very hot and burns out after a couple days of use.
The deflection yoke/coil is shorted, common problem with Sharp's 27" series tv's.

QUESTION NO. P821-6:  Zenith SG2710TR TV.  The audio level continues to decrease. The volume control has to be at 100% in order to hear anything.
Replace the MPLX Sony sound decoder module.  The equivalent part #'s are as follows:  Sony SBX1637-11, SBX1637A-01/02, SBX1638A-01A, 8-746-371-10, 8-746-371-11, 8-746-371-20, Hitachi1381181, RCASKUP9102, 201632, Zenith905-2321, GoldstarOIS0163702A.

QUESTION NO. P820-2:  Sanyo DS25380 TV detunes about once each second.  Tuner, saw filter and both coils subbed with no help.
I think there is no AFT signal from i.f board.  Check for dry soldering of this area.  Also check horizontal IC for dry sold.  Now check AFT volt on i.f control IC [0v to 8v] on tuning process.  Last check AFT volt on system control IC [0v to 2.5v]to lock tuning. [imr]

QUESTION NO. P817-8:  Samsung vm6405 TV/VCR dead but has a high pitch oscillator sound.
Check the horizontal output transistor rep [D1878] & also check for dry solder around the horizontal output.
Check and replace c810 to stop squeal.

QUESTION NO. P817-10:  Zenith SRV1304S TV/VCR is dead. The fuse is not blown.  Upon connection to power there is a small chirp as the switch mode supply cycles once it seems.  The dc voltage is ok to the primary switch mode transistor, I believe they use an fet type in this device.  I cold checked all the primary caps and diodes and found nothing.  I made a cursory check of the secondary diodes to see if something is pulling the supply down and not allowing it to oscillate, and again nothing.
There is a 6 volt regulator on the power supply board, a KIA7806.  It goes bad and only puts out about 2-3volts on startup.  This will cause the set to go into a shutdown mode and the power supply appears to be dead.

QUESTION NO. P810-8:  Sony kv m25 11 l TV.  Originally it took a long time for picture to appear until eventually it did not appear at all.  When turned on, a horizontal line appears high up on the screen for a few seconds.  When switched off, pink lines appear.  Checked for and resoldered a few dry joints, no improvement.  The frame output transistor appears to be ok.
Probably the G2 voltage is not ok.

QUESTION NO. P726-5:  Nec ct-2501 TV is blank except for single horizontal line in the center.  Leads from the yoke go to a 6 contact connector and there is no ic nearby.  Is there a transistor or ic that controls the vertical?  What is the number/location of the ic/transistor?
Found open diode at D-503.  I noticed some soot on the flyback and checked the surrounding components.  I replaced the D-505, that had a crack in it, as well as the adjoining resistor and cap.

QUESTION NO. P712-7:  Sony KV-1440ME 2A TV has a thin horizontal line through the middle of the screen.  The sound is clear, but there is no picture.
Check the vertical deflection circuit (supply and output circuitry).

QUESTION NO. P711-8:  RCA F32676 SB TV Chassis CTC 197 CD, tries to come on but shuts off a second after power switch is pushed.  The 145v is present and the other voltages appear OK.  There is a horizontal waveform momentarily at the base of Horizontal output transistor and on the collector.  Output transistor checks ok and the diodes coming off the flyback are ok.
From what I have seen so far with this set, you are describing a FBT failure. Two of the ones I have fixed had no visible damage, but did not work. Two had holes burned in them. At the time of this writing, I have 5 on backorder from my supplier for this identical problem. RCA P/N 237506. RCA has told my distributor they will not ship this item until late August. Do not be surprised if you also have to change the HOT also after changing the FBT.

QUESTION NO. P724-1:  Mitsubishi VS-47r TV has no picture.  We checked all the fuses and all of the boards, none were blown.  It seems like higher voltage circuit for the guns is missing.
Replace C7001 & C7001 both are 47uf,35v located in the pip board.  Also replace other surface mounted electrolytics in the pip board.  For more info refer to the archived section where many Mitsubishi tv's have this problem.

QUESTION NO. P726-8:  RCA TV chassis CTC 169as.  I need the part number for the horz. output transistor Q401.
Q401 is a 2sd1885.

QUESTION NO. P724-10:  Panasonic ct27g30t TV chassis amedp246 was dead with blown fuse.  Changed out stk-730-020 and Hot bu2508df (substituted with 2sc5250).  Now it does not blow fuse but will not come up either.  Placed series light (150w bulb) in B+ circuit, measured around 153Vdc, light stays bright seems like a short , checked everything in power supply circuit, seems ok.
I recently repaired a Panasonic with a similar chassis (AEDP224), I replaced the HOT Q551 (BU2508DFLB), and it blew after 5 minutes, I suspected a leaky Cap, but I had no equipment to measure leaky Caps, I replaced 3 components D558 (RS3FS), C564 (.0039 1.2kv) and C565 (.0012 2kv) and that fixed the HOT problem. All three components were mounted next to each other on the PCB with a slot (air gap to minimize arcs) cut in the PCB between both legs of each component.

QUESTION NO. P75-6:  Philips 14CE1002 TV forgets the preset channels after having been turned off for a while.
Check the Memory backup battery NiCd 2,4V/90mAh. (code 4822.138.10229).  This Philips chassis CP90 and CP110 are known for this problem but normally you should also loose sound and color presets together with the tuner presets.  If you don't, then take a look at the TMP47C432-8XXX ucontroller backup voltage pin or replace this chip because it could also have a memory problem.  If you replace the TMP and if the TV is equipped with a Teletext option, pay attention to the 8188 or 8189 version which defines the Teletext firmware.

QUESTION NO. P613-7:  RCA Proscan PS31122 TV, Chassis CTC169EJ5 horizontal deflection problem , the picture is only 1/4 of an inch wide in the middle of screen but alright on vertical from top to bottom , color and sound OK.
Looks like a pincushion problem.  Possibly bulged blue or gray capacitors (changed value).  Also could be leaky diodes in pincushion circuit.  Another possibility is bad yoke to main board connections (solder).
Replace the blue rectangular box cap (.48microF at 250V. I used a .47 ) in horizontal circuit.

QUESTION NO. P618-2:  Zenith sj2765w TV came in with no power, had blown fuse.  Replaced fuse and when plugged up Q3431 popped, replaced with another and it popped also.  The transistor is 1264, what does this cross to in NTE?
Cause for blowing q3431 is probably shorted i3431 regulator ic.  Common cause for power supply blowing is intermittent shorting crt.

QUESTION NO. P525-8:  Blown line output transistor in Sony KV-25R2D TV.  I replaced the original S2055N with a BU508DF.  After about 2 1/2 hours it blew again. The cooling plate gets quite hot, which might cause the breakdown of this part.  But the picture is normal when operating, though after a while the picture sometimes "twitches in" horizontally.  Is the power supply voltage too high, or another fault in the power supply?
Your first problem is you used a sub on a Sony TV, Trust me, NEVER sub high voltage or power supply parts on a Sony TV, use Sony replacement parts and life will be good, be SURE to use heat sink compound on the new transistor!! I learned the hard way too, use Sony parts in a Sony and it will work.

QUESTION NO. P531-9:  RCA CTC175A TV does not turn on.  I replaced eeprom.  The set turns on but all the tuner alignment data in the old eeprom are lost.  I do not have a tuner alignment generator.
www.electronicsaid.com then click on "RCA EEPROMS" and use the average values given for your chassis.
You have three options, re-install the old eeprom and write down all the parameters to enter into the new eeprom, buy a pre-programmed eeprom, take it to a shop that works on RCA`s.

QUESTION NO. P65-7:  Sanyo AVM-1903 TV, chassis # G4519030 with what appears to be a programming fault.  On turn on, the tv goes into demo mode and cycles through all the parameters of brightness, color, tint, channel select etc.  This continues indefinitly.  I suspect the eeprom needs to be reset, but how?
Press and hold "Demo" button for 5 seconds or until the demo has disappeared, nothing wrong with EEPROM or micro.
Try pushing and holding in the menu button for up to 10 seconds.

QUESTION NO. P61-6:  Sharp 19EM40R TV chassis 7921VO, has bad controller IC, Sharp X2157CEN3.  Cannot find part or cross ref.
There is no sub for this IC to my knowledge.  Use original.

QUESTION NO. P61-10:  Mitsubishi CS-27303c TV has a problem with the vertical hold.  I look on the scope at the pin 28 (vertical out) of the LA7674.  When the trouble appears instead of having one peak I have like six.
The problem was c7001 (4.7uf 35v) that leaked on the PIP board.

QUESTION NO. P521-5:  I need a part # for Q3431 for a Citizen jctv 3402 TV.
The part # is 121-1264-01a.  This is a zenith chassis.  Check icx3431-probably shorted-also 47ohm resistor open - cause crt.- int. short

QUESTION NO. P516-2:  RCA TV CTC 140 chassis when powered up cold, there is vertical roll and some horizontal distortion on text.  Once the set is warmed up, it operates normally.  I suspected a bad C4301 cap on pin 7 of U4300 deflection IC, but changing that did not solve the problem.  I also changed the power supply cap C4708 on the 17V supply with no results.
Cold spray in sync/oscillator circuit.  After set is warm should find fault- probably small electrolytic cap.  Also check low voltage supplies.

QUESTION NO. P521-8:  RCA TV 169 chassis has retrace lines and brighter than normal ,appears on all three tubes.
Check the 200 volt supply from flyback - if low or missing can cause retrace lines.  It is supply voltage for video output transistors.  Also check luminance buffer transistor.

QUESTION NO. P57-10:  Toshiba 2506XH TV, IC801 (8-pin DIP) is missing from PCB board, I need the part number.
IC 801 is not an 8-pin DIP. It was 5-pin SIP and the part # STR 81145.

QUESTION NO. P58-7:  Toshiba 2506XH TV.  Need part number for IC807 (8-pin dip). Part was missing in the board which was earlier repaired by another technician.

QUESTION NO. P523-3:  RCA CTC 197CD TV would not come on, replaced IHVT.  Set comes on now but menu button on front panel does not bring menu up.  I can enter the service menu by pressing menu, power, vol +. so I do know that the menu button is physically making connection.  It just will not display the customer adjust menu.
This sounds like a typical eeprom problem.

QUESTION NO. P522-10:  Philips TV chassis 25f 800, no power /and from my findings look like no start-up.  A semi-conductor marked as[ 7601] on the silkscreen and has 6 pins and is marked as [tcdt1101g] the only voltage is on {pins 4} -34vdc, pin5}-26vdc, there is no other voltages measured on the other pins.  What is the function of this component?
This device is a phototransistor-output optocoupler, made by Vishay.  You need to have a voltage applied across the LED (pins 1 & 2), to get phototransistor conduction from pins 5 to 4.  For more information on this device, download the datasheet from www.vishay.com/docs/tcdt1100.pdf for this Vishay optocoupler series.

QUESTION NO. P426-5:  Grunidg CUC 3410 TV emits a nearly unnoticeable high frequency sound (this is normal I think), but there is no sound nor picture.  Led display work well and there is a clicking sound coming from the speaker (this sound stops when pressing volume control button).
Replace HOT driver TDA 8140 and cap 220u/40v near him.

QUESTION NO. P518-6:  Sony kv-27tx10 TV, the colors were all in wrong places.  Resodered thermistor solved problem, but there is a greenish tint on the screen.  How do I set gray scale tracking to get rid of green?
Answering my own question, I turned the color control off and was still greenish.  I marked the screendrivers on the kine board and turned the blue counter clockwise real slow til screen was white then turned color up - greenish tint gone.

QUESTION NO. P515-7:  Magnavox bc3910sl01 TV , the video was flashing and then went out to no picture.  I changed most of the transistors [no help]. cleaned brown glue from circuit [no help]. uhf tuner will not feed if through vhf tuner either. uhf works if it is connected direct to vhf tuners' if out.  Also works with sub tuner from another tv.
The problem was located in vhf tuner c17[8pf] located in base circuit of tr3 [2sc1394].I replaced with 10pf cap.  This cap c17 was leaky shorting base circuit to non conduction.  Also carefully clean most of the brown glue off components [pick off].

QUESTION NO. P57-3:  RCA CTC 146 TV, on high brightness scenes darker bars come in from left side of screen (horizontally not jail bars).  The picture can pulse but when scene darkens picture returns to normal.  If the screen control is turned down the problem stops but at a point where the picture is just to dark for good viewing.
Depending on which model you have, check R 2715 for an increase in value, resistor should be a 113K or a 158K, if it is bad it will go up in value to as high as 750K, also check R 2727 should be a 3900 ohm, it may have also gone up in value.

QUESTION NO. P53-5:  Toshiba CL20G22 TV chassis TAC9702 dead.  Main fuse blown.  Found R899 which is a dual diode shorted burned causing a short circuit.  Unable to read any reference number (part number, value, etc) on it.
Answering my own question, part was a 110v rated varistor.  Replaced and working fine. No other part except main fuse was affected.

QUESTION NO. P430-1:  RCA CTC 175A-F F20301S-F TV has intermittent loss of picture and sound, usually a slow progressive deterioration and sometimes collapsing raster with red screen, most noticeable on higher channels.  Will operate sometimes for a day or more and then repeat same sequence over.
These are classic symptoms of the infamous "tuner wrap" problem in CTC 175, 176, 177, 184, 186, 188 and to a lesser degree in CTC 185.  This is a grounding problem that occurs because the circuit board was designed without a proper ground plane or trace structure, and the main ground for the set is distributed through the tuner and microprocessor shields.  The fix is outlined in Thomson service bulletin 96-005.  You must also order special materials S-KIT-1 (Indium based solder and special flux) from your distributor to insure a long lasting repair.  The repair involves soldering a number of connections inside the tuner (the inner ones with the special solder) and the outer ones with regular solder, resoldering the microprocessor and pip shields, and resoldering both ends of white wire E16 which starts near the tuner and goes toward the front of the chassis.  The tuner must also be grounded with braid to the near end of this wire. Check all the values in the EEPROM after the repair, as the lack of grounding can overwrite values.  Also look for missing (or added) features, as the feature word or indeed any part of the control program can be also overwritten.  Frequently the code that controls the speaker mute line is corrupted causing very low value sound, but an amazing array of failures can occur. Replace the EEPROM and realign all chassis parameters if in doubt. To save time, you may copy the old data on paper to start with and then adjust any values needed.

QUESTION NO. P430-7:  Zenith Sentry 2 model SMS2053S TV has a horizontal white line in middle of black screen.  Looks like vertical hold problem.  I noticed in archives, lots of Zenith models with picture tube problems. Is this what I'm looking at or could it be a component on the board?  This model has 1 board.  No visible sign of burned components. T.V. is only 5 years old.
A white horizontal line centered on a black screen in most cases is caused by a bad cap or caps in the vicinity of the vertical driver IC or the IC itself.  Some sets, however, have an onboard switch for service.  Accidentally changing its position will cause the same symptoms.

QUESTION NO. P44-5:  Mitsubishi CS3535R TV has no video or audio, only menu display and channel numbers can be seen.
It looks like the tuner is defect.  Does this TV have a scart input?  Try that one and when all is ok, it's quite sure that the tuner is defect.

QUESTION NO. P418-1:  Philips 21GR2350 TV has image but no sound.  I replaced TDA 8191 with TDA 8190 but still no sound (with external source like VCR I got both image and sound).
It looks like the problem is situated is the demodulator, which is mostly placed inside the tuner, when using a scart input this circuit is bypassed so this problem will not occur.  Advise replace tuner.

QUESTION NO. P412-5:  Quasar QC-29F20S TV chassis YAEDC204 has horizontal white in center that is centered perfectly but spans only 60% across the middle.  There is a faint hiss from the speakers but no volume.  There appears to be data when menu is pushed.  Vertical section components appear to test good.
Both Quasar and Panasonic later model tv's are very prone to bad solder on the vertical module connections.  Could also have bad capacitor in vertical circuit.  Sometimes vertical IC fails.  As far as the set not having audio I suspect you may not be in TV mode.  Fix vertical problem first, then see what is left.

QUESTION NO. P420-5:  Sony KV32S35 TV shorted Q601, 602, 502, and R607 open.  I replaced all transistors with original from Sony and the VDR601, and R607, I also resoldered the flyback.  After replaced the parts the set did not turn on and the same parts shorted again.
Double check solder connections in horizontal driver circuit.  If the HOT shorted, this is path most likely.  Also have found small resistors in e-b junction on HOT have changed value.

QUESTION NO. P417-9:  Samsung tc9895tb TV keeps blowing fuse.  Changed flyback, hot, voltage reg, and vert amp.  Still blows.  When remove yoke connector does not blow.  Yoke checks out fine. Remove vert. ic. doesn't blow fuse either.  Same as hot remove it does not blow.  Soon as any of these components are replaced, the fuse automatically blows.
To stop blowing fuses, use a light bulb as a series load.  If the bulb lights and go down to a normal intensity then you do not have a short.  If it flashes, then you have a short.  Check the bridge rectifiers, generally Samsung TV use B12 or 1N4007 as rectifiers.  Usually if one is shorted then another one is shorted.  If this does not solve the problem, look if the main cap (usually the biggest one) charges and discharges by applying continuity with the DMM.

QUESTION NO. P425-1:  Mitsubishi cs-35301 TV, vertical chip i.c. 401 la7838 burned out.  I replaced r9610 that powers the chip.  TV may run up to two weeks and then when turned off or on it burns the chip out.  Pin #12 vertical out goes to ground?  Have replaced the chip at least 10 times.  The yoke winding has a resistance of 9.8 ohm, is that right?
Check the electrolytic capacitors in the vertical section.  There are a couple of 100uf/35v caps that go bad right by the vertical output chip.  There are also a few electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board that go bad.  A good ESR meter is worth its weight in gold for finding these.

QUESTION NO. P424-2:  Zenith SL7784BT TV has no picture, no HV, sound is ok . Customer smelled smoke, no apparent cooked components.
Check CR3412 for bad solder connection.  Many times when this opens FX3403 will open and sometimes QX3208 shorts.

QUESTION NO. P419-9:  Sony KV-27S35 TV.  I need a source, type and part number for R607( 0.1 Ohm 1/2 Watt) and C615(0.039UF 630V).
Try Electro Sound 800-441-6110, part number 1-202-933-61/11.

QUESTION NO. P328-10:  CTC 187ch3/6 TV previously the set started shutting down intermittently.  Then the set went dead with a high pitch noise.  Found that the HOT was shorted between base and emmitter.  Further checking found R4402 is 3.7 ohms. I need the value.. The resistor go to pin 10 of the CRT soc.
The resistor you are looking for is R3343 with value of 5100 2% and 1/4 Watt.

QUESTION NO. P329-1:  RCA CTC 187 TV blows H.O.T.  Already replaced associated diodes and caps in horiz. section. B+ is fine.
If it keep blowing the Horizontal Transistor you are probably dealing with problems on the Horizontal driver section.  Check for tiny cracks on each joint, if it not properly connected your H.O.T. will go in seconds

QUESTION NO. P45-4:  Magnavox TV chassis 25S102 would not shut off then went dead.  R432 was burnt and Q502 was shorted.  I changed these and IC430, C432 ,Q400, Q402, Q403, Q405 R407, IC350.  Set still will not turn on.
Check collector voltage on horizontal output transistor, if not approx. 130 volts, check the pico fuse it`s open.  Also check pin 2 & 4 of IC 430.  If they read approx. 65 volts then Q403 is probably running hot.  Replace R435 it is either open or has gone way up in value, R435 is a 130K ohm 1/2 watt.

QUESTION NO. P410-4:  Sony-KV-27XRB TV there was a clicking sound for a few seconds then one exploding sound.  Now the FBT crashes (air sound) continuously, and I measure 33Kv at HV.  If I let the set in, high voltage drops very high.  There are no parts burned!  I replace the FBT ,and same problems.  I also need the voltage measurement at HV, FV (focus), G2.
You need to take your set into a reputable shop and get an estimate on the repair, the High Voltage on your set is lethal and non-technical people should not attempt this type of repair.

QUESTION NO. P419-10:  Sony KV32XBR25 TV is dead.  17v standby line is at 21v.  Appears to go into shutdown.  After relay click, 130v B+ drops off.  I think problem is on "G" board (power.).  Changed Q656 but no help.
If the set IS going into shutdown, check/replace IC140 the AUDIO amp and D1410.  I know it sounds strange, but I have fixed two of those XBR sets with the above parts.

QUESTION NO. P326-2:  Mitsubishi CS-2710R TV has a pincushion problem and the picture is shrunk on both the top and bottom by about 2".  I checked the components on the pincushion circuit and found a 1000uF 16v cap leaking electrolytic, retouched several cracked solder joints on the pincushion & main board.  Replaced bad cap but no change.
Problem was found to be cracked solder joints on IC951 +130VDC voltage regulator.

QUESTION NO. P329-4:  Fisher PC-525U TV, chassis G3V-5525UO, the picture shrinks in all four sides in sequence with bright scenes after the horizontal output transistor was replaced, Q402=2SD1879, along with R008=220 ohm, 10w, R009=220 ohm, 10w,and R473=6.8 ohm, 8w.  This problem is also in a found in a Sears 4433,chassisC539-51305-1(Canadian model).  Note R008/9 run extremely hot in both units,  Could it be the crt?
It is not the crt but a 130 v regulation problem in the power supply of which R004=5.6 ohm,2w became open when Q402=2SD1879/80 became shorted (original problem).

QUESTION NO. P326-6:  Sony kv-27ts35 TV had blown Q601 & Q602.  Replaced them Q602 overheated & shorted.  Checked everything associated with the circuit, found nothing.  Replaced every cap in power supply for fear of start shorting - same thing.  All parts used were Sony part numbers purchased through Sears.  If a variac is used & start @ 90 volts high voltage comes up and so does the raster, seconds later the same thing.  Replaced t-603 resoldered t-604, HOT and the drive transformer.  The voltages are correct for the short time it works but it appears that Q-602 is being turned on hard.
Check Q603, R647, R607 whenever you change Q601& 602.
Replace IC1400=audio output IC, also D1410 and the 2SA1309A transistor in that section.  For more info refer to the archived question/answer #P410-6 and P110-4.

QUESTION NO. P316-3:  RCA TV chassis CTC177AA3 was dead.  I changed the EEPROM and now it comes on but there is no sync (horizontal sync out), vertical height also exceeds.
In service menu hor. sync.and vert height need slight adjustments.

QUESTION NO. P328-6:  Mitsubishi CS3514R TV, channels do not receive any color.  When video input is used color is fine.  After a couple of weeks video input also lost its color.
The smd caps on the PIP board are failing.  MGA has replacement pip boards available.  Good test is to switch on the menu and check for any distortion in the osd and menu display.  On the pip board you can try replacing C-7001 as a test, be advised, this may temp fix your symptom, other smd caps on the board will fail soon.

QUESTION NO. P319-5:  GE 13gp240a TV missing startup.  tp 15 is open & missing.
Look for discolored (burnt) area and you will find & replace TP12=3214=RCA#198752=ECG123AP (installed backwards in board) in some models it is TP15,as well replace DP02=BZX55C12=RCA#198592,220637=ECG5021A,NTE5021A.  Also check TP11=BF423=RCA#198751=ECG397*,NTE397*,SK3528* and TR03=BC548=RCA# 198743=ECG123AP*,NTE123AP*,SK3854*.

QUESTION NO. P326-1:  JVC AV2672S TV some months ago the volume dropped down.  Now the volume raises and lowers randomly.  I found some kind of dry liquid spill on the board, and cleaned, but no change.
Some JVC models use a Sony MPLX decoder sound module #SBX-1637-01/11which has 8-10 surface mount electrolytic caps that leak and ruin the tiny sound board and must be replaced,  Sony vended this module to many manufacturers and their equivalent part # are as follows:RCA#201632,SKUP9102, Sony#8-746-371-10/11,8-745-371-20,SBX-1637-01/11,SBX-1638A-01, Hitachi#1381181, Zenith#905=2321, Goldstar#OIS0163702A, Toshiba# ?, JVC# ?.

QUESTION NO. P323-8:  Mitsubishi CS-2671R TV, the picture has a vertical roll.  I changed IC401, R917, C928,D909 C413, C416, C412, C415, C417, and C419.  Nothing has helped or changed speed of rolling.
Replace C863=4.7uf,50v in smps power supply or C840,C841=330uf,16v in some models as well as C301,c305=1uf or 2.2uf,50v in vertical section and solder IC301=AN5521(7 pin SIP). These caps are red or brown and tend to leak.  Clean board before installing replacements, Sony used these "Elna" brand caps and had problems in the power supplies of their VCR's.

QUESTION NO. P322-7:  RCA TV chassis TX82 is dead.  Checked specific voltages and components, everything seems ok.
The startup transistor (TR-15) may be bad.  It will probably read ok, but if you have not changed it, you might give it a try.  An ECG123 will work just fine as a substitute.
Replace tp15 [ecg128]; add homemade heatsink 1"x2" rolled up on drill bit to fit ecg128 snugly with heatsink compound inserted.  Replace tp15 even if it checks ok [looses gain].  Replace caps cp01,cp08 both 100uf@35v.

QUESTION NO. P322-5:  Toshiba CF2662B TAC 9215 TV, when I first turn it on cold, picture is in middle of screen with retrace lines in top third of screen and bottom third of screen black. After on for half an hour, picture returns to almost normal.
Check the electrolytic capacitors by the vertical output.  An ESR meter will show you which ones are bad.  If you do not have an ESR meter, just shotgun replace the caps. (There is also the possibility that the vertical output chip is bad, but generally the symptoms like this are because of bad caps).
Solder IC301=AN5521 (7 pin SIP).  Also replace C301,C305=1 or 2.2 uf,50v (red or brown caps) and C863=4.7uf,50v or C840,C841=330uf,16v in some models located in smps power supply, these red or brown colored Elna brand of caps leak quite frequently in Toshiba TV's and Sony VCR's. There are a lot of similar units throughout the archived section of this website with the same problem/solution.
Toshiba CF2768B does not have C301.  I repaired my vertical sweep problem (picture that is completely blank at the bottom 1/4 of the screen (squashed)) by replacing C305 (2.2uF 50v) and C342 (1uF 50v).  Did them both at same time, so only one may have been required, but I went for broke and spent the additional $.60.
The previous answer is confirmed.  C301 does not exist in this chassis.C305and C342 respectively were changed after carefully testing the bad caps.  I used a Sprague Tele-Ohmike to test for leakage.  Both had developed leakage.  The Huntron Tracker 2000 showed a good waveform so beware Huntron users!  Replace the two bad caps and gain full raster.

QUESTION NO. P320-3:  Zenith H2521Y3 TV.  I need the values of  RX3433 and RX3434 which feed the 41volt fixed regulator, were vaporized when the input of the regulator had shorted.
R3433 is a 15ohm 1/2watt, R3434 is 43 ohm 1 watt.  A bad crt probably caused the failure. Zenith made a lot a bad tubes during that era.

QUESTION NO. P37-5:  Quasar SX2751HE Chassis ALEDC218 TV only the relay clicks.  I suspect the regulator but not sure.  Also would like to know  a sub IC804 part # SE14027C.
Check the horizontal output transistor.

QUESTION NO. P226-6: Mitsubishi CT-29GL1(A) TV has intermittent vertical deflection height.  Only manifests itself when the deflection board is lifted at the end slightly.  Cannot see any obvious bad connections & re-soldered any that look doubtful.  Connections ok between boards (trigger signal) and to the deflection yoke.  Power supply voltage looks unaffected.
IC 706 (9V 3-pin regulator) on signal board (near signal-deflection boards connector) found to be barely soldered to board. Re-soldered and vertical deflection ok.

QUESTION NO. P38-8:  RCA F20602SE, Chassis CTC175A2 TV that did not receive any channels.  There is raster, and the audio circuit works ok.  I resoldered the tuner connections which RCA recommends using there resoldering template.  This did not solve the problem.  I next replaced the tuner control IC, TSA5515T with no change.
I found the problem and replaced CXA1594L or RCA # 215532 in the tuner section.

QUESTION NO. P214-2:  Ferguson T14R TV TX805 chassis has no power at all, but the fuse is in good working order.
Check resistor RP41, RP42, RP44.  Check zener diode DP50, if shorted control the soldering near the THT (LP04).

QUESTION NO. P28-5:  Nordmende 3205imc TV is dead, no sound, picture, not even the stand-by.  LED fuse ok.  I checked the power supply, and from the diodes bridge and on there is only 8vdc.
If the chassis is a F20 ( IKC2 ), check LP01 (open), DP01, DP02, DP03, DP04 (open ), CP06.  Sometimes there is a resistor between the fuse and Lp01.

QUESTION NO. P227-5:  Magnavox T991-14 chassis TV, at first was no b-y, brightness excessive.  Repaired focus pin on crt socket.  Now there is no color.  Subbed ic1 ecg738 but did not sub ic2 ecg739.  Burst gate signal 4vp-p.  Signals going into ic2 pins 12, 13 0.25vrms; still no color.  Power supply voltages ok.  Resoldered pin connections on motherboard.
I found the problem of no color.  Replace ic2 with ecg739 demodulator ic.

QUESTION NO. P220-5:  Magnavox 25tr15c122 TV, chassis number 25b800-7562 has a loss of vertical deflection.  I changed the vertical output and there was no changed.  Nte cannot cross the output so I cannot check for input and output voltage.
Sounds like you have lost Vcc to the chip. Usually 26 volts on Philips units, go to the flyback and check the 26v line going to the vert. IC, there will be a diode (source of the 26 volts) and it is probably open.  There also may be a 1 ohm resistor right after the diode it may also be open.  On rare cases, replacing the IC again may be necessary, this will get you going 98% of the time.

QUESTION NO. P122-6:  AOC C2500R TV clicks when power button is pressed, but the screen remains blank and no audio.
It is probably a defective power supply.  It could also be the hor. out. transistor.  Find the power area and check SCR (diode) switching power transistors and electrolytic capacitors.  For the latter check for low capacity or high ESR.

QUESTION NO. P220-7:  RCA 177ah TV with vertical foldover at top half of picture, bottom half near normal.  Accessing parameter# 06 in the service mode d oes not help.  Replaced c4505, c4506 and u4501.
On almost all TV's this problem is caused by a defective electrolytic capacitor in the vertical area of the circuit.  It could be a low capacity or a high ESR capacitor.

QUESTION NO. P214-8:  Magnasonic (Canadian manufacturer) MCTV2000 TV/VCR, cross brand Daewoo (the brand is on boards and chips inside).  Origi nal problem was no power.  In the power supply section, repaired a narrow ground trace whic was burned, between JV808 and CV810.  Same problem.  Found QV809 and QV810 defective. Both are marked as transistor C945 (YC102).  They seem to be related to memory backup protection, because they switch a 0.1F (not 0.1uF) capacitor.  Also, the power supply is a linear one.  There are four D2058 transistors used as linear regulators.  None of them are defective.  +10V is present, but no +5V and no negative voltage.  The voltages at all the secondaries of the transformer are good. The voltages after various bridge rectifiers are good.  Tested all C, D, Q. IC801 not tested.  I changed the DBL324 to a TL074ACN (FET) , not a LM324 (BJT).  Now there is power everywhere, it seems.  The front display is illuminated, indicating negative power exist.  But the logic to the display does not seem to work because almost everything is displayed at the same time.  After a short delay, the fuse blows.  I think there is overvoltage and/or overcurrent somewhere.  The two connectors of the power supply give the following reading without load (disconnected) with respect to chassis ground:  PV801, pin Volt, 1 -0.5V, 2 -23V, 3 -23V, 4 GND (connected to chassis), 5 -30V, 6 4.8V, 7 4.8V, PV802, pin Volt, 1 5V, 2 5V (drop to 0V with scope probe load), 3 0V (not connected to ground), 4 12V, 5 0V (not connected to ground), 6 5V, 7 GND (connected to chassis), 8 5V, 9 9V, 10 12V, 11 31.7V, 12 0V (not connected to ground).  What are the normal voltage output of this power supply?
I think that you should take out the TL074 you installed, and install the correct LM324 opamp.  LM324 (DBL324) is a single-supply opamp, meaning that its common-mode input range includes the negative supply rail.  The TL074 (JFET) opamp is not supposed to have any input pin voltage get within 3 to 4 Volts of the negative supply voltage, or it will not operate properly.  In fact, JFET opamps are especially vulnerable to this problem, and can go into a disastrous phase reversal of the output, if the inputs get too close to the negative supply voltage (within 3V, for a TL074).  If your DBL324 circuit used a positive supply, with ground as the negative rail, then any input within 3 Volts of ground could send a TL074 into a tailspin.  The same would happen even if that DBL324 uses a negative-voltage supply rail, if any input pin of the TL074 got within 3 Volts of the negative supply's voltage.

QUESTION NO. P213-3:  Toshiba CF32C50 TV Chassis 9323, audio fades in and out and/or squeals.  Some areas of the audio spectrum, such as the hi gh treble, are often amplified.  The MTS module is MVUS32S.
Remove MTS module and check inside for Sony SBX1637-xx module.  If it has, one change it.  Same problems Sony has with the module.

QUESTION NO.    Mitsubishi cs-27401 TV has no picture, video out to an external monitor is ok.  Used remote to get menu up, ok.  Picture tube circuits are ok.  Traced video waveform to pip module, but not out.  Picture appears briefly from time to time after long shut downs.  On occasion it power up with just blue and red horizontal lines.  Checked various connections on pc board, ok.
Check PIP module for aluminum electrolytic capacitors.  If so, look for leaky C7001. Its value should be 4.7uf @ 35v.  Change it.  Also inspect board underneath for damage from electrolyte.

QUESTION NO. P19-5:  Mitsubishi V5061 projection TV, reception at the low channels 2 to 7 goes in and out when the TV is cold and first turned on.  As the  TV warms up the problem goes away.
Sounds like breaks inside the tuner.

R706 150 ohm 1/2 watt metal oxide (safety critical).

QUESTION NO. P26-7:  RCA E05202BC TV chassis 1002A.  I need part number for IC1.
IC1 193309 if/agc/aft/fm det.

QUESTION NO. P21-2:  Sony KV-27S66 TV whenever it is left plugged in for a few minutes up to one hour, it is dead.  Unplugging it for a few seconds gets it to work, only to have it go out again whenever it has juice.  Replaced the EEPROM and quartz oscillator,  no results.  I measured the both the 5 v and 7.5v STANDBY test points on the A board. The 5v is 5 volts, but the 7.5v measured at 7.61 and sometimes 7.55.  H owever, when the set plays dead, the voltage jumps to 7.68-7.70. The 5v stays at 5 volts regardless.
Replaced both the primary microprocessor and audio processor. Suspected the audio processor to be the fault, but also replaced the main IC to play it safe.

QUESTION NO. P26-5:   RCA CXB1312a TV.  I need a cross or part number for Q102 (number on part is r1001 with 513 under that).
This sounds like KSR1001, a Samsung digital transistor.  Possible substitutes would be 2SC3921, DTC143ES, AA1L3M, and RN1001.  An NTE/ECG 2355 probably will also work.

QUESTION NO. P13-10:  Philips 25PT4494/05 TV.  I need the value of resistors 3929 and 3930.
If this TV is L6.2 chassis, r3929 = 220e 0.5w fusible, r3930 = 560e 0.5w fusible.

QUESTION NO. ctc176E TV RCA chassis has poor focus.  When adjusting the focus control scan lines are produced on the screen with very little effect on the focus. Are there any external components to the Flyback involved in focus? Will shorted crt cause the same effect?
See if focus line from flyback to crt module has bad connection.  I had a ctc203 with a loose focus connection right where it pushes into the crt connector.  Reseating the wire fixed the problem. Otherwise, could be bad fbt.

QUESTION NO. P14-4:  Mitsubishi CK3531R TV picture disappears then reappears with no apparent pattern, from minutes to days.  Switching off, then on, restores picture for variable amount of time.  With picture absent ( black screen ), on screen display's yellow letters are red, green letters disappear.  Main menu flashes on briefly mostly with magenta letters, some blue and red.  Resoldering dubious connections on CRT board worked for almost a year, this prior work still looks good.
Open resister R688.
The cause of the problem is apparently "IC203".  Resoldering was no help.  A light push one way cuts picture, the other returns picture.  Replacement is indicated.  It is labeled L78M09 0L2.  This appears to be a 9 volt .5 A voltage regulator in a TO-220 case.  Many are available for less than $1, see Mouser, etc.  Need to know the importance of the 0L2 portion of ID or manufacturer.

QUESTION NO. P110-1:  MGA CS-1346R TV, when it warms up, the channel number increases and just keeps going and there is no picture just snow.  If put on channel 7 it will stay there but it really tunes into channel 23 (cable).   Sometimes it will revert back and work OK.  I soldered all the connections in the tuner area to no avail.
Clean that nasty glue off the board.

QUESTION NO. P112-10:  Philips Magnavox, Chassis # 27b800-7562 TV has a vertical Failure.  I found R445 open, along with a diode attached to it shorted. I assumed that IC TDA9302H was defective. I replaced IC, and turned it on.  The raster was totally impuritized, and picture absent (yes there is a picture in the line.).  It returned to a line, than shut down.  D445 shorted again.  The IC was not damaged (again).  Then I replaced C419, which had an open top.  Replaced the diode again, same problem.  I found another resister open, R420, jumped it, it burned a foil line coming from the diode that was attached.  The diode was attached to pin 4 of the IC.  The pin 4 is the ground.  A b+ volts was sent up there.
Change both diodes, both resisters and ic.

QUESTION NO. P18-2:  Philips 20k161sbo2 TV chassis 20r1-01 is dead.   s.m.p.s checks out ok and hi-v can be turned on by shorting Q464 from col to ground.  Micro-up IC-301 seems to be the trouble area. Vcc at pin 40 of IC 301 is 5 volts.  Also using a freq counter at pins 18 and 19 shows 12 mhz. Pin 11 power ctrl to Q464 dead.  Have Philips tech training manual which includes schematic diagram.  I suspect IC304 EEPROM or microcomputer IC301 (need feedback on this).
Pull the eeprom. Set should run.

QUESTION NO. P130-4:  Mitsubishi CS-2720R TV has no audio from tuner.  RCA jacks work fine but when in TV, mode picture is clear but there is no audio.  IC3A1 is fine.
I am answering my own question.  I found that the problem is a coil, part number 327P073020, connected to Pin 2 on IC201.  I think the loc. # is L300.

QUESTION NO. P1221-5:  GE 19tvr 60 2a/2chassis TV/VCR, picture is reduced about 3" at top and the heads are stretched in the middle and it has a vertical fold at the bottom.  I checked the caps and resistors and replaced the IC in the cf section no change.
The small caps play a big part on vertical height and linearity.  Check cf 09&cf10 both .1@63v for loss of value.  Thomson shows two part numbers for these poly caps.  I am ordering both numbers so I can determine which ones I need.

QUESTION NO. P1215-1:  Proscan ps27110 TV chassis ctc169 gf, originally dead with blown out fuse.  Replaced ic and transistor of switching power supply and a few leaked caps.  Tested all diodes and horiz. out transistor ( inc. all related resistors ).  Testing showed the switching is fine, power up and relay clicks for a few seconds.  I can hear the flyback and horiz. out working but shuts down, switching still oscillating fine.
If 140v is available on collector of Q4401 (horz output) at plug in, resolder connections on T4301 (horz driver transformer).  Check C4401, C4402, C4403, CR4401, CR4402.  These items will make the set shut-down.  If you do not have 140v on Q4401, check it (may be shorted).  Also check CR4116 in 140v supply line.

QUESTION NO. P1213-5:  Sony KV-32S25 TV, the video on all video inputs blinks.  The video text at the top appears (i.e. Video 1 or Video 2) when blinking, like it has lost its source and has just regained the source.
The picture shows to be "blinking", when actually the picture is "blanking".  This is caused by a weak picture tube.  Sony has a special circuit that "blanks" the video when the current draw from the CRT circuit falls below a certain level of 1k.  You might try a CRT brightener.  May help for a while.

QUESTION NO. P12-9:  Panasonic CTM2066S TV has a thin horizontal line through the middle of the screen (lost vertical deflection)- clear sound, but no other picture.  After about 20-25 minutes (varies), picture pops up as normal picture. I do not see any cracked solders - thoughts on the IC? Yoke connections?
Check the IC.  It has become heat intermittent.

QUESTION NO. P111-1:  Toshiba cf2665k TV, 1/4 from the bottom there is no image.  This appears to be an old damper problem.
Check the bottom output transistor on the vertical output circuit.  Check for leaky transistor, or leaky capacitor.
Replace C301 and C305, they are either 1uf @50volts or 2.2uf@50volts.

QUESTION NO. P13-4:  RCA FPR725ER TV has no high voltage.  Replaced HOT by ECG 389 and it worked for 5 minute and then blew.  Called RCA with correct stock #146823, price $55.10 CND.  Any subs available for this HOT at lower cost?  Any other components to be checked when replacing the HOT?
Yes, ECG389 is not an adequate sub for RCA# 146823 here.  Possible equivalents include 2SC1172B, 2SD822, or ECG/NTE238.  If Canadian sources like Pacific Semi, Data Displays Ltd., or Global Semi don't stock these, try MCM, B&D Enterprises, or Mouser in the US.  Check/resolder any bad solder on the grounds for the main PCB, and on the binding stakes for the MTT tuner/control module, both front & back (also check the caps there, too).  In the horizontal area, check the emitter resistor for the HOT, check the horizontal retrace cap, and check the solder on the pulse-forming transformer and nearby.

QUESTION NO. P13-9:  Sony KV25-XBR TV begins to boot, but no picture; led stays in sleep mode.
Re-solder 9 volt regulator, IC581, also check solder on 582 & 901. IF, set has HV but no pict/no sound, check R1651 on "D" board it might be open.

QUESTION NO. P1214-3:  Sony KV27TS32 TV. I need value of R550 and R551, burnt open.
Value for R550 and R551 on D board is 10 k, 5%,1/4 w. sony #1-249-429-11.

QUESTION NO. P1227-1:  JVC AV35770 TV came in dead, power surge.  Power supply damage, replaced regulator IC901, Q926, power restored.  Set would power up then shut down.  Replaced bad cap in sweep section, C531, set power stays on.  Now, after about 40 seconds, constant buzz in audio, transformer T901 makes noise, comes thru sound.  Changes with screens in video.  After warm up, audio clears up.  Sound interference only initially when turn on set.
Check for small audio module apx 2x3", green in color, with SBX*** markings.  This would be the MPLX Decoder.  It contains several silver colored capacitors, usually 6-8 mounted on top.  They start leaking and will cause distorted sound.  This module is made by Sony and are used in Sony, Toshiba, JVC, RCA and several other sets.  They are a common failure item.  If your set has one, that will be the solution to your problem.  They are NOT repairable, but must be replaced.

QUESTION NO. P1228-6:  Mitsubishi CS-27EX1 TV, video is very washed out/weak for first 10 minutes of operation, then gradually returns to normal.  Video input appears to be ok warm or cold.  Freeze spray has not been successful in narrowing down the problem.
Check out the filament circuit.  Look at the neck of the picture tube for a glow in the neck.  If the filament voltage is low, it will cause a weak picture.  Check for bad connections on the CRT ckt board, on the back of the picture tube.  Then check for bad connections on the main circuit board.  The filament voltage comes from the High Voltage Transformer.  Sometimes there is a low value resistor in the filament circuit. 2-3 ohms.

QUESTION NO. P1128-8:  Toshiba CF32H40 TV shuts off intermittently.  It can operate normally for 10 minutes to 2 hours before this happens or sometimes it will shut off right away.  Often I see green flashes on the screen right before the TV shuts off.  Usually unplugging the set and plugging it back in, I can turn it on again with the power button.
Intermittent short in green gun of CRT. Will cause shut-down of power supply.

QUESTION NO. P1211-3:  RCA CTC187 TV is dead with the exception of a high pitched buzz or whine coming directly from the SMPS transformer when the set is plugged in.
Check to see if q4401 shorted.

QUESTION NO. P1215-6:  RCA ctc167 TV comes on with perfect audio and osd but otherwise crt totally black.  Looks like all three color ouputs are biased off.
Check Q1505 and make s ure R4713 is not open.
I believe the problem is that the blanking pulse is excessive causing video to be blanked out.  I have seen this symptom and a electrolytic cap in the vertical circuit is leaky. I do not remember the number but it is a 220@35 inside the U of the heat sink.

QUESTION NO. P1215-4:  Zenith SY3272DT TV is  dead.  I've ordered a schematic but curious if this chassis had some common traits that would get me there quicker.  AC comes in and produces 50v after the bridge but no other signs of life.  No relay clicks.  The customer did describe pulling in from the sides for a period before complete failure.  The horz out checks good.
Check 5V regulator IC3442.

QUESTION NO. P1227-9:  Sony KV2729-R TV operates fine on start-up.  However, loss of both audio and video signals after about 2 minutes.  TV sometimes resets itself after about 5 minutes but will again blank out after a period of time.
Try replacing r512 (330K). Should be off of pin 2 of IC301.

QUESTION NO. P1227-10:  Hitachi 32cx33b TV Chassis a3lxu3 has no HV but relay clicks.  B+ is present but high (~150V).  Seems like going into protection shutdown.  Open R90H (bypass protector) and HV will fire up for about 3 times until set is rested.  D903, HOT checks good.  No +15V.  Q70A?
Troubleshot and found 15V line ok.  Found no 12V in startup circuitry. Q90A bad.
Solution:  Replaced D744, D741, and D713. This is a common problem with this chassis.

QUESTION NO. P1129-8:  Toshiba cx2988c TV dead, relay click ok, b+ ok.  There are many voltage errors:  +13.9V read 0V, 12V read .4V, 9V read .6V, 26V read.22V, 115V flyback section read 121V.
Replace C-840 and check/replace C841.   They are usually shorted, C-840 is 330 @ 16 volt, I use 330 @ 25 volt and they never come back.

QUESTION NO. P1214-4:  Magnavox 27P103 RK5530 TV vertical flat line. No 26 volts to vert chip. +155V at R424 is 50v and +200V at D451 is 8V. Suspect Q420 (Reg). Have not swapped out any parts. Did not want to replace vert IC just to have it blow again (if it is gone). Continuity to yoke seems fine. Reflowed solder connections to major components and wiggled caps with no results.
Your problem is either an open diode, resistor or both.  Follow the 26 volt line from the vert IC back to the flyback transformer pins.  You will find a diode and sometimes a low value resistor (1 ohm, 2 ohm etc) coming off the flyback.  The diode rectifies the AC from the flyback and is your source for the 26 volts needed by the chip.  The vertical IC may be bad but not usually.

QUESTION NO. P1212-2:  Magnavox 26C805 TV chassis.  R403 has disintegrated, I need the value.  It is a thermistor (NTC), the only number is 2303240001 from NAP.
MCM (800-543-4330) lists this thermistor as a Philips part# 483511637005.

QUESTION NO. P1127-8:  RCA ctc133b TV is dead.  Fuse is not blown, nothing obviously shorted.

QUESTION NO. P1120-8:  Sony KV20TS27 TV has good sound and good picture except picture size modulates in proportion to brightness of scene - dark scene, picture is near normal size, bright scene, picture will shrink.  The brighter the scene, the smaller the picture will shrink.  Checked +200V, +135V, +12V, all 20-25% low.  Replaced HOT and did marathon re-soldering job with no improvement.  No 60Hz in sound or picture so not suspecting main filter caps.  Nothing burnt, nothing running excessivley hot.  Note, with HOT removed, all voltages came up to dead-on normal.
Check the heater (6.3v filament) pin to ground pin on the neck of the crt for shorts as this could cause the 6.3v source to be shorted (coming from the flyback).  I have seen this many times on Hitachi tv picture tubes and many brands of computer monitor picture tubes, I have not yet seen it on Sony crt's but it is possible.
You have a voltage regulation problem, check by replacing voltage regulator IC, re-soldering 9 volt IC regulator etc.
Check for shorted heater winding on flyback. With crt socket off, the open circuit pulse should measure over 20 volts p-p.

QUESTION NO. P1116-4:  RCS F20601SE TV Chassis CTC175A did not operate.  I replaced the HOT and the set worked fine except for the audio.  At max volume the volume is actually only at 1/3 of max.   I looked around speaker circuitry and all seems OK.  Is this a menu setup thing?
Replace shorted Q1903=mute transistor located next to R1915=2200 OHM which is next to pin 3 of U1901=audio output IC, the voltages on Q1903 should be as follows=ov,b=0.24v (0.65v),c=12.4v (0v).For more info refer to Electronic Servicing & Technology, 1993/1994 Profax Schematic Special Issue, page 49 or call 1-800-853-9797 (N.Y.) to order a back issue for about $4.00 each.

QUESTION NO. P1121-10:  Grundig CUC-2410 TV is dead.   Trippler found to be faulty and replaced.  On powering up, line output was present but no sound and no picture, even if the signal is inputed via a the Euro-Av (via a VCR).  Suspecting in the microprocessor (SDA-2011) since tuning, band switching, contrast, color, brightness voltages all remain fixed on varying the controls/stations.   However LED display works well!  Should I replace the expensive MicroProcessor?
If trippler was faulty, change the tuner which was damaged by high voltage from the trippler.

QUESTION NO. P1010-8:  GE. 20GT406 TV, Chassis CTC146H, blows fuse F102 when turned on.  Replaced R106U and Q402.

QUESTION NO. P1018-10:  Sony KV-2647R TV.  Replaced defective Horizontal Transistor, Flyback, and regulator and 2 amp fuse.  Set comes on and on the screen at the edges on top there is horizontal pincushion inward about 2 inches on both sides.  Then about two to five minutes the horizontal transistor blows along with the fuse.  It makes it hard to take measurements to check signals form the vertical/horizontal control ic.  I used all Sony parts except Flyback (ASTI).  I also checked the electrolytics using an ESR meter.
Sounds like the tuning cap/s could be open circuit.  Is b+ spot on with no ripple also?

QUESTION NO. P118-4:  RCA GKR673TR TV.  In a vertical area about 25% of the full screen height, the horizontal scan shrinks to a point and then expands back out (hour glass like). The result is a horizontally pinched image. The picture is stable and in sync. This pinched area however, rolls slowly from bottom to top allowing two of these pinched areas to show. No burned out parts.  Checked for shorts and open circuits in the horizontal osc. section.  Resoldered some cold solder joints.  There does not seem to be any electrolytic caps in the hor. osc. section but there are some bright orange caps that do not seem to have a value on them (just part numbers).
On a similar model it was the big power supply electrolytic capacitor (can style) mounted on the back right on the metal chassis, it had 3 or 4 pins and only one capacitance was being used. Replace with ordinary 2 pin electrolytic capacitor (smaller) and device a way to mount it.

QUESTION NO. P926-9:  JVC AV-20TP4 TV.  Vertical output was intermittent, vibration to set would turn vertical on for limited time.  Now, set has only horizontal line.  Resoldered cold solder joint on C138 and checked vertical output coil but no improvement.
Almost every JVC I have seen has required a resoldering of the vertical ic connections.  They are also known for needing the degauss thermister resoldered.

QUESTION NO. P1018-8:  Sony KV27EXR25 TV.  I need to find a part number for an IC in the BTP -202 Tuner. The number on the chip is CXA1125P.  The set is over nine years old and Sony no long stocks this tuner. I checked around for a sub ' ECG' and the part was not listed.
Have your tried the rebuilder's?  PTS has a good supply of rebuild tuners.

QUESTION NO. P1020-10:  Toshiba cf27g30 TV.  The pcb near the flyback has cracks, fixed all of it (the cracks are connected to flyback pins) .   When turned on, the colors in the picture are like rainbow scattered in all four corners.
It sounds like the TV has been dropped.  If so, the shadow mask inside the crt has shifted.  the only repair possible is replacing the crt.
If the circuit board around the flyback had cracks in it, this would tend to indicate that your TV may have been dropped or jolted.  Make sure firstly that the yoke has not shifted on the back of the picture tube.  If it is not installed correctly onto the neck you will get these symptoms.  Also you may have some more cracks in the power supply around the degaus unit.  Check where the degaus coil connects to the PCB and then check this area for cracks.

QUESTION NO. P103-4:  Panasonic pc33v92s TV is taking out d816-116vzen diode & H out q551.  Replace h driver & xfomer also suspected caps in ps & fbt supplies no change.  At turn on set work fine for one minute then h-shift around outline of images and letters, h out gets hot.  Waveform at out put of h-driver slight rolloff at top of wave,h-frequency shifts only slight.   Resolder many  connections still same.
Check the horizontal drive transformer.  Panasonic has this problem in Quasar brands too.  Transformer shifts or is intermittent.

QUESTION NO. P104-5:  Toshiba CF30F40 TV.  The vertical deflection is not working as I only have a thin horizontal line through the centre of the screen.  The 500mA fuse that carries the B+ voltage of 34V to the Vertical I/C was open.  I replaced it and the Vertical I/C with the manufacturers identical part.   The unit still has no vertical deflection.  I tested some diodes and resistors on the board with no luck.
You have defective filter capacitors in the vertical circuit.   They are usually located next to the vertical IC, and will have the same prefix number as the IC.  If the vertical IC is IC501 the caps will be C5**.  Some sets have a couple of red colored caps located in the center of the board, next to the large IC.  They will also have the same C5** numbers on them, if they are in the vertical circuit.

QUESTION NO. P1010-1:  Sanyo DS25380 TV Chassis #25-380-05 drifts through about 3 channels a couple of times a second or so. I replaced the tuner. The voltage at "TB" on the tuner jumps around also.
Slide the chassis back and check the tac switches for evidence of (spills). Any corrosion, discoloration, green fuzz around the pins of the tac switches will cause this problem.  If they look ok, remove the chan up/dn switch (they could be leaking).

QUESTION NO. P1011-8:  GE. 20GT406 TV Chassis CTC146H is blowing the fuse 250V 1A when turn it on.  I replaced R106U, Q102, Q402 and F102, but when I turn it on, the fuse F102 blows.

Then using the volume + button, bring the value of V up to 76, then press the channel up button till the P value goes to 5, this is your vertical dc.  Using the volume + or - button to adjust the value of V.  Then use the channal button up to incress the P value to 6.   This is for the vertical size, adjust it using the volume + or - button to set the value.  Once this is done, hit the power button on the set to exit the service menu.

QUESTION NO. P912-7:  Sony 27xbr55 TV  has a sharp picture except the colors are exchanged, red shows as blue, blue shows as green and green shows as red.   B&W picture is OK.   Also there are rainbow patches in all corners. Voltages are OK.
I am a Sony servicer.  You have a bad connection on the thermistor.  Also, resolder stand-up regs in middle of main, horz drive trans., and flyback.  If a Sony set has rainbow in corners, thermistor is not working or set has taken a fall and a weld for aperature has broken.

QUESTION NO. P929-2:  Zenith B25A11Z TV.  I need information on TA1268N which has the cut TRC (without image).
A very extensive datasheet for TA1268N is available from Toshiba at this URL doc.semicon.toshiba.co.jp/pdf_e/docweb123/e003177.pdf.  This PDF document is 1.5 Mbyte in size.

QUESTION NO. P919-2:  Magnasonic MCTV2000 TV/VCR Manuf. 1991 has no power.  Everything is dead including VCR time display.  Inside the power supply section, a narrow ground trace is burned, between JV808 and CV810.  Replaced with a wire, same problem. +10V is present, but not +5V and not -28V (?). The voltages at all the secondaries of the transformer are good.  The voltages after various bridge rectifiers are good. Tested all C, D, Q.  IC801 not tested. The IC801 chip in the power supply section is marked as Daewoo DBL324.  I need info on this chip.  The way it is used make me think that it is a LM324, quad op-amp.  Each of the four outputs are connected to the base of each transistor regulator.  The same chip is used in another section of the VCR (around audio/video ?), that make me think it is not a V regulator specialized chip.
The DBL324 is surely a LM324 compatible and you can replace it without others changes.

QUESTION NO. P91-2:  RCA F31222SB TV Chassis CTC169GN will not come up.   Vert. line left to right center of screen.  LED flashes on & off.   Replaced HOT, Chopper trans.& IC,cr4122, and everything checks good.  I can bring it up under low voltage for a minute, then plug it in the wall and it came up.   Sometimes if set has not been on long and I change channels or turn up sound it will kick off.  It also pops through the speakers. After a month or so it will short Chopper trans. & IC.
Check the secondary +15 standby voltage, it might be low around 8 volts (it may check ok in circuit), it supplies the micro with +5 reset voltage.

QUESTION NO. P830-6:  Toshiba CX2047J TV has a three to four inch horizontal black bar across the bottom of the screen.  I changed C125 (2.2uF 50V electrolytic) which was completely dry in or near the vertical section. No luck, same symptoms.  I checked which I believe to be most all caps in the vertical section with my ESR meter and all are good.  Could it be the Vertical Deflection IC AN5515?
Usually there are two caps of 2,2uf in this set.  Their color is red, replace both.  The second as I remember is in the middle of the pc sometimes there is a zener diode near the middle.

QUESTION NO. P81-3:  Sony KV-32S20 TV, the picture flashes on and off.  Replaced sampling caps on jungle IC, and Jungle IC.

QUESTION NO. P725-1:  Two RCA TX-826 Chassis 13" tv's, on cable channels 23 and 26 have a consistent vertical roll.  The problem is not the tuner nor does it appear to be bad solder joints. Thomson tech line did not have an answer either.
Sounds like the vertical signal level coming from the cable is hidden beneath the grass or noise level on these 2 channels and since your tv's cannot see the vert signal, they cannot lock onto it.  The old cable boxes used this scrambling technique but on both the vert and horiz signals. Try inline DB amplifier made for 23 and 26 frequencies, and see if your set will lock up to the channels.  If it does then it's time to call RCA techs back and discuss the problem again.

QUESTION NO. P84-10:  Sony KV-C2980B TV has an intermittend problem of audio gone, picture OK.  Standby LED starts flashing at approx. 1 Hz.   Does not accept any RC command.  Switching set Off/On will restore normal operation.
Check for bad low voltage power supply capacitors.  Do not test in circuit.  Unsolder the plus end of each taking the electrically out of the circuit and test with a good capacitance tester.  You will find a few 1uf,10uf or 100uf caps bad.  Problems with Sonys that do not come on but have a blinking timer light have can been traced to power supply failures.  You may find there is just one voltage missing which is common to both your problems.

QUESTION NO. P82-9:  Mitsubishi cs31301 TV, when turned on, color comes for 20 seconds then goes to color zync.
It is possible that it can be located by freezing with cold areas of the board with a can of -62 degree cold spray.  Also, you may want to pull the plug after it unsyncs and feel for abnormally warm transistors, IC's. Either way it should not be hard to track down.

QUESTION NO. P822-9:  Toshiba Cf32C50 TV.  The Audio "crackles" intermittently.  Audio level "fades" in and out.   Have checked for bad solder joints on ckt board.  The Power out amp IC has been changed by some on else (now an ECG7068).  Think it may be in the MTS module or tuner.  Please advise on logic of annalyze and parts availibility.  The MTS module is [MVUS32S; Sony SBX1768-01].  The tuner is [EL854L1, 3l17A].  The MTS has the little Sony audio board with all the surface mount caps, is it possible it could be this amp?  What about re-tuning the audio ckt board and the rest of the MTS can?
After changing out a myriad of the SBX1768-01 in Sonys since the days when they were @ $70 and many an hour finding the cause of "popping","loss of one channel","squeals", "lowering / loss of volume" in those sets. The same problems were found in your set also.Upon opening the MVU32S module the same troublesome Sony sound module was used in it!  ATLAS ELECTRONICS in Dallas at 214-631-2911 has them now at approx $7.
Remove the little sound board and look it over very closely with a 10x magnifier for burn marks and large holes in the board material in the plated through holes.  Replacing the sound module fixes the audio problems.

QUESTION NO. P818-4:  Sony kv32ts20 TV has intermittent noisy audio.  I.F. pack has been changed, also changed the TDA i.c. on the sound board.
Common Sony problem, usually reference # MM201, small audio board labeled "SBX 1637-11". Board is about 1" x 2". RCA part number SKUP 9102 is cheaper & easier to find than Sony.

QUESTION NO. P88-10:  Magnavox RS3160 C103 TV, Chassis #31T102-00CC with a horizontal white line in the screen.  R445 was open, leading the flyback to the vert. amp. IC, and diode D550 was shorted. That indicated that the Vert. Amp IC TDA8174 is shorted. (I think.) but, what caused it to short, and if the replacement will short right back out?  It has been fixed before by another technician who told me that the picture was completely black and this same IC had been replaced.  Would this have been the reason it has shorted out?  What caused it to short?
The reason it is shorted again is because the tech did not replace all three components at the same time.  Replace the IC, resistor and diode all at the same time.

QUESTION NO. P816-9:  Toshiba CF2665K TV, the vertical deflection is failing at the bottom.  Checked most of the caps in the module, is it better to change the module?
Replace C-301 and C-305, they will either be 1uf @ 50v or 2.2uf @ 50volts.  They are usually red, and don`t jump them out just replace both of them at the same time and your problems are over.

QUESTION NO. P817-7:  Magnavox Chassis 13L4-04 TV runs for two hours to two days then shuts down and will not come on until unplugged for 15 to 20 min.   Voltages at test point 15 checks good while set is running and slightly over when shut down.  R433 extreemly hot.  Board overheated around this area.  R433 seems to be ok, will check out of circuit along with C413 and Q422, all running hot.
If you have the correct B+ at the collector of the horizontal output transistor then the STK is good.  If not, replace the STK regulator IC, AND R502 (47K 1/2 watt resistor), common failure in the L1 & L4 chassis`s.

QUESTION NO. P87-4:  Toshiba-2057xel TV, the green color covers the screen.  That means the bias of the green o/p transistor is not ok but this unit does  not have any potentiometers to adjust.
Shorted crt, video output transistor, etc.

QUESTION NO. P89-4:  Sony KV25-XBR TV displays thin horizontal line, sound ok.  Is the vertical deflection circuit the place to look?
Yes.

QUESTION NO. P88-2:  Sony KV27ts27 TV chassis # e65a-a works well except for the sound.  There is a hiss sound, the volume is turned down, it goes away.
Open the back and locate the middle board that is upright, should have a stamped "A" on it.  There is Sony Sound module 7+8 pin dip Part # SBX-1637-11.  Order it and replace it. That is below the Jungle IC to the left.

QUESTION NO. P728-7:  Chassis of the TV set is a CTC146.  The power relay used to cycle with a period of about 3 seconds.  The set is "dead" and I checked the two internal fuses and they're OK.  In standby mode I can measure the 12vdc and 5vdc voltages.  When I press the pwr switch I measure the 150V B+ voltage and also checked the 140 volt regulator Q4102 it appears to measure fine. After 3 seconds or so, the relay releases.  Initially, the relay emitter voltage measures 11.5vdc and after pressing the power switch its voltage goes to ~1.6vdc per the schematic.  I resoldered the tuner terminals where they come through the board, but didn't open the tuner as of yet for additional soldering.  I resoldered the HV Transformer leads as well. Question what's causing the relay to recycle?   Do I have to change the EEPROM or resolder it?
Check out CR4118.

QUESTION NO. P725-9:  Nokia Eurodigi 16 9 chassis TV operates for approx 10 seconds then shuts down with "IIC" displayed in the channel display. This is a slight variant on the salora m chassis. I have tried various components via replacement but to no avail.  I have the circuit diagrams and know these sets quite well.  But I am stuck with this particular problem. I also know that this message "IIC" indicated either IM or I2C bus problems. Apart from excessive width(there is no E/W distortion) the picture and audio are ok.  There does not appear to be a problem in the diode modulator section anyway regardless of horizontal amplitude.
You are right that it seems to be a I2C or IM bus problem.  Check the lines of both buses with oscilloscope to make sure there is activity on all signals.   If not, this signal is probably shorted to gnd or +5V for some reason.  Try removing modules (stereo, tuner, PIP...) one after another and see if you get activity.   It could also be a fault in the main board, maybe you must de-solder and insulate the pins for I2C / IM buses of one IC after another.  The most suspect ones are the EEPROM, ADC and APU.  As far as I remember the I2C bus is used for the stereo decoder and the EEPROM while the IM bus is used for the rest of the chassis.

QUESTION NO. P724-10:  MGA CS2193uc TV.  I need a source for an MN1405 IC.
B&D Enterprises (800-458-6053; www.bdent.com) is listing MN1405MT.

QUESTION NO. P69-2:  I need to obtain a regulator number for a Zenith SG5535TR TV chassis 9-914.
Rregulator on 9-914 is STR53041.
STK53041 available from Dalbani Corp. for approx. $3.95, Ph 1-800-325-2264.

QUESTION NO. P77-7:  Zenith TV power supply module part number 9-520-04.  I need to know if Q3401 is a PNP or an NPN transistor.  It reads short all ways and I cannot find a cross reference.
I found here on 9-520 q3401 is an ecg2312.
ECG 2312 is T-NPN -Si, HV, Hi Speed SW, To-220 case.  Cross References to the ECG # include MJE-13007, MJE-13007/O, MJE-13070, 2SC-3626, 2SC2832/O, 2SC-4130, 2SC-4242, 2SC-4242/O, 2SC4273, 2SC4273/O.

QUESTION NO. P77-3:  Toshiba CF1311J TV, started with a single horizontal line with no audio.  Now it has sound but the picture is missing 2" from the bottom and the upper half if full or horizontal lines that somewhat makes up the picture.  Replaced IC301 and a few 300 series electrolytic caps, one cap C305 was open.  Swapped the leads to the yoke and the lines now become vertical. so yoke is fine.
Replace ALL of the C3** filter caps in the vertical circuit.   There are usually a couple that are located near the video amp IC.  Also trace visually back from the anode of the diode,(located next to the vert IC) to the hv transformer b+ source.  There will be a filter cap located at the cathode(banded end) of the vert b+ rectifier, replace it.

QUESTION NO. P67-6:  Sanyo 91C667U TV dead with no relay.
Check the stand-by power supply.  Usually defective filter capacitors.

QUESTION NO. P67-8:  Sony KV-A2922U TV was taking progressively longer to fire up.  Replacing R1605A (8.2 MOhm) resulted in normal start-up.   Now there is retrace or flyback lines over the top 3/4 of the screen and a greenish tinge to the screen.
Change the filter caps in the vertical circuit.  Locate the vertical IC, the caps will be next to it.  They will have the same prefix # as the vertical IC ie IC500, C5**.  There may be a filter on the b+ supply to the vertical, you will have to trace back to the hv transformer from the anode of the diode that is located next to the vertical IC for its location.  You will need to adjust the gray scale tracking to clear up the green color.

QUESTION NO. P531-3:  RCA FPR518WR TV, sound will turn to maximum loudness.  Console buttons do not work to lower sound.  Also, television will turn on by itself with this sound problem.
Check for defective connections in the tuner control module.   Resolder the connections around the post connections that plug into the tuner.
Locate and repair defective connections in the MTT module.  This is the Tuner & Control module.  Or you can send it to Tip Top TV & VCR 18441 Sherman Way, Reseda Ca 91335. Ph 818-345-1974.  They will repair for $25.

QUESTION NO. P65-4:  Toshiba CF27G50 TV is dead.  Upon turn on, relay clicks on and off.  Hear hi-volts come up and then dies.  Switching supply?  If I shut it off and on, nothing happens.   Using variac at 85-90 volts makes no difference in startup.
Check C 840 and 841, usually 840 is shorted or very leaky, C-840 is a 330uf @ 16v, I replace with a 330uf @ 25volt and they never come back.

QUESTION NO. P619-8:  Sanyo AVM-3258G TV.  Picture shrinks from sides (in and out), 130 volt line goes low. then shuts down.  All components within PS checked good out of circuit. Opt. Iso. replaced along with IC 601, Q601, no change.
Check and replace any bad caps/diodes in the retrace circuit. These are the caps that go from the collector of the horz output transistor to ground or to a diode cathode. These will cause detuning of the horz circuit ie a narrow picture, sometimes damage the horz output transistor.

QUESTION NO. P629-1:  Emerson TS2761D TV mfrg. 7/92 suffix A has no video, no audio.  Fuses good.  Switch relay on power supply board cycles.
Check the filter caps in the power supply for high ESR reading and replace the high reading ones.

QUESTION NO. P628-1:  Magnavox RD0946T101 TV powers up but after 5 to 10 seconds, the picture starts collapsing.  B+ voltage starts dropping at pin 1 but the B+ regulator tests good out of circuit.
Change the b+ reg.  It is breaking down under load.  Or you may have excess load on one of the b+ lines from the high voltage transformer.

QUESTION NO. P629-9:  Sony TV-VCR combo kv-13VM21, the relay RL1802 opens after 1-5 seconds.  Sometimes cycles on off several times by itself.   Service manual costs $50.00.
Yes, those service manuals are expensive.  I have found the best thing to do on this type problem is to check all of the filter caps in the power supply and replace any with high ESR.  This will solve 90% of the problems, with out the expensive diagrams.

QUESTION NO. P68-4:  RCA 32" CTC169 chassis TV.  We replaced transformer three times, we still get anything from a high pitch squeal to a loud vibration noise.  We even potted one of the transformers.
You don't say which transformer.  Power supply or high voltage.   If it is the power supply T4102, you probably have a short on one of the b+ supplys comming off of the transformer.  If it is the high voltage T4401, you could have a pincushion, hv divider or g2 short on the 200v line.  There is no way that you could have that many BAD transformers.  The problem IS SOMETHING ELSE.

QUESTION NO. P61-3:  Mitsubishi CS-26301 TV has shakey vertical sync and loses it quite often.  It looks like there is noise getting into the video & sync circuits.
Check for bad caps in the vertical circuit.  I would also suspect the delay line, it can cause some really strange problems.
MGA models with horz or vert sync problems, if equipped with pip usually have a pip problem.  Remove pip board jump on vp conn. 5-11, 7-9. to restore main pix if working repair or replace pip board.

QUESTION NO. P523-10:  Two RCA tv'S CTC185AA chassis with the same problem.  Channel search in the menu screen will search in cable position to channel 52 and turn off "cable" and switch to antenna , then search to channel 69 and stop.  During this whole process it tuned in no channels.  The eprom , ic 1001 and ic 3101 have all been changed voltages are still erratic in ic 1001 and ic 3101.
Manu of the RCA CTC-1XX chassis have poor solder from factory.  If the tuner is a model 2G26004-501 or similar.  Remove tuner and shields. Re-solder all ground points to shield covers.  Re-solder U501 and also all SMT components in this and the AFT area.  Install and verify that the "autoprogram" completes first cycle, then starts at channel 02 and completes cycle again.  Other option is to replace tuner block.
This seems to be a common problem, tweak coil L1002 I believe is the number.  It will make a change in the tuning and let you program in the cable position!

QUESTION NO. P518-2:  Sony KV 32S12 TV, lightning struck and heard a very loud noise but had no burning smell immediately following.  Power supply is ok reading 160v at the filter, but -27 volts at the flyback pin 1.  High voltage fast switching diode (RGP02-17) next to flyback is bad.
I suspect that you are using the wrong ground to measure the b+.   Measure the b+ across C540 (33uf/160v).  You should get a + reading at this location.  These setS have a hot and cold ground.

QUESTION NO. P518-3:  Magnavox RS4480 TV, lightning struck and burned up the surge protector and had open resistors R429, R429 around the power transformer.  Replaced and the rectifier filter is good at 160v, but the B+ is 47v.   Will not turn on.
Value of R429 is 24~ 3w. If it is open, C430, .001@ 400v is usually shorted. You should have 130v at cathode of D430 and cold ground.  This set has a hot and cold ground. If not on the proper ground, you will get missleading readings. If the 130v is not there when turned on, you have a problem in the primary switching power supply.

QUESTION NO. P518-9:  Mitsubishi CS-2611R TV started out with the top of the picture folded over, then it went to a horizontal line, also smelled like a component burned up.  Do not see any visible failure.  Vertical chip is running very hot.  Also on a side note; the remote was dropped on the floor and stopped working, nothing visibly broken inside.
Check R556 (1.2~1w), this is the b+ resistor for the vertical circuit. Check or replace C413 & 416, both 100uf @ 35v.  These caps probably opened, causeing excess current to the vertical IC. The vertical IC401 (AN5521) may be shorted. If so, that would open R556.  I would replace the caps, then measure pin 7 of IC401 for about 26.7v.  If the voltage is there, but no vert sweep, then replace IC401.   If the voltage is not there, and the resistor getting hot, replace IC401.

QUESTION NO. P516-1:  Magnovox RR2540AA101 TV Chassis 25S102.   No audio or vertical sweep.  Checked all P/S voltages, changed IC 350, IC 351 and IC 550 with no change.  Noticed that audio is coming out of incorrect pin on IC 265.  Only have SAMS on set and I do not know if there is a procedure to initialize the new EPROM.
The power for both the vert and audio ICs come from the IHVT, thru R445, R421 respectivly.  If you have no audio and no vertical, but you have HV and raster, that is where you should start.

QUESTION NO. P519-1:  Magnavox CP4770 A104 TV Chass 27T101-00CC (3/92).  Dead, click only.  Tested main power and several IC,  OK
The click that you hear is the degauss relay.  There are too many things that would cause the set not to power up.  The low volt power supply would be the place to start.  If you are not a VERY good tech, I recommend that you take it to one.

QUESTION NO. P58-3:  Sharp 27f-s50 TV get only a hissing noise out of the audio.  I replaceed ic201 sif/pif jungle ic to no avail.   Verified that audio output was ok as well.
The best way to find the problem, is with a scope.  Check pin 54 of IC201 for audio.  Check pin 39 of IC3000 for input, 17,18 for output. Check pins 4,5 of IC3301 for input, 3,13 for output.  Check pin 8 on IC351,352 for input, pin 5 for output.  If sig is missing, ck b+ to the IC, also coupling caps to & from the IC.

QUESTION NO. P512-5:  RCA E13203BK TV Chassis TX825TC turns on plugging the set into a electrical receptacle.  The unit cannot be shut down with the remote or power switch. The television has to be unplugged from the electrical power source.
First check TP15 (13.6v reg), then TP12 & TP11.  Check pin 20 of IR101 (control IC) this voltage should toggle up/dn when pwr button is pushed.  If it will not change, you have a problem in the switch ckt.  If it changes, the transistors are not responding (leaky/shts).

QUESTION NO. P516-6:  Toshiba CF3060k TV.  Need part number for Q404.  Face blown off after yoke shorted.
Q404 is a 2SD1428, toshiba pt# A6868767. You need to find out, if not already done so, what CAUSED the failure.

QUESTION NO. P523-5:  GE ctc185a TV, the screen is intermittently fuzzy, sometimes at the top sometimes at the bottom or middle.  It goes all the way across the screen.  I checked for bad connections.  Also was getting a high pitch from flyback when it goes fuzzy so I took a shot and changed the flyback, did not help.  Could the horizontal (buh417d) out do this?  If so, is there a cross for it?
Negative.  Focus is developed off the fbt assembly.  Going fuzzy could be either the picture going snowy indicative of a tuner problem, common in the CTC-185 chassis, or a change in the focus or crt bias. Tuner connections are a common problem with this chassis and the obt tuner.  CRT bias can be checked by measuting the G- bias level and desiginated votlages at the video driver and output devices, the horiz output will not cause this symptom.

QUESTION NO. P524-3:  Memorex tdg2037t6 TV high voltage is very high, arcs on picture tube.  I cannot leave set on long enough to test.
Run on a variac at reduced AC input level and troubleshoot the power supply, regulator circuits.

QUESTION NO. P524-2:  RCA CTC169 JS5 TV unable to control width and picture was too wide.  I replaced U001 (lm311) , width seemed to decrease a little, but width and pincushion adjustments seem to have no affect on picture.
Pincushion diode, capacitor, and driver transistor.

QUESTION NO. P525-5:  RCA 27" Console TV has a seperate audio power supply board.  It generates 26 vdc to power the Audio chip which drives the internal TV stereo spreakers.  I traced it down to a depletion MOSFET Q1. The part number on the Sam's says 190718.  I ordered one from RCA but it came and it was a transistor.  The part number on the chip says K101-1.  It looks like a Motorola insignia. I need an alternate part number to get one of these.
Specific Model # and Chassis # plus exact reference # be it Q4001, Q16001 or what is required to cross reference the device to the correct part number.

QUESTION NO. P519-7:  NEC 2610 TV has no vertical deflection.   Outputs check O.K., IC replaced containing oscillator replaced.
Check the filter caps in the vert ckt.  If the vert IC has failed, it was probably caused by def filters. The b+ for the vert IC usually comes from the HV transformer.  To check for b+, check at the anode of the diode located next to the vert IC.  If not there, trace back to the HV tnsf, look for a low resistance resistor that is open.

QUESTION NO. P519-4:  Toshiba CF2772B TV, vertical height lost on upper and lower 2 inches.  Vertical height adjustment results in an overlapping ghost.  On screen channel indications are cut off at the bottom.  Found and repaired several bad solders around the tuner shields, no effect.
Check the filter caps in the vertical ckt.  Also the power resistor for the vert IC, if open, the vert IC is probably shorted.  All vert filter caps will have the same prefix number as the vert IC ie, vert IC301 filter caps C3**.   Don't overlook the two small caps (red) located next to the hor/vert IC.

QUESTION NO. P54-6:  Sansui TVM1300C TV, the vertical height has increased.  There is no size control or any other control for that matter except screen and focus on the flyback.
Check the filter caps in the vertical circuit.  If you find any 1-2 uf @50v caps, replace them.  Sometimes these are red in color and are prone to leakage.  The caps will have the same prefix number as the vertical IC300, ie caps C3**.  Usually next to the vert ic, sometimes next to the hor/ver IC.

QUESTION NO. P426-4:  kv-32xbr70 TV, horizontal output fails intermittently.  Replaced horizontal driver transformer, c548, c525, and q503 twice.   r571,r531 and r539 are getting hot and I checked b+ and voltage around fbt and also the surrounding components.  They seem to be normal.  High pitch sound is present.
Check out the low voltage power supply.  Excess ac in the horz circuit will cause the horz output to run hot and short.

QUESTION NO. P426-9:  Magnavox 27Y100-00AA TV; replaced shorted Q502 ( 483513047897) and open F401 fuse and repaired bad solder connections on R504 & R524, resoldered connections on flyback and everything else that looked questionable.   Checked STR30130 & other parts (caps, resistors, transistors) TV comes on , H.V. charges up on picture tube, then it shuts down.  Bad flyback transformer?
Replace STR30130.  This is the b+ reg and is noted for failure.   Excess b+ will cause the set to go into HV shutdown.

QUESTION NO. P525-7:  Zenith SJ2765W5 TV picture is dark.   When adjusted, the color becomes distorted with lots of yellow.  When I go back to default, it is too dark again.
Time for a new picture tube or better just buy another set.

QUESTION NO. P54-1:  Philips GR1 TV Chassis 14'', horizontal circuit does not run.  SMPS oscillates but wave-form and frecuency are incorrect (Output voltages normal).  When power on, startup and immediatly horizontal circuit runs off.  How can I test Horizontal circuit separate?
This is not the exact answer you are looking for, but replace inductor 5524 next to lopty with a 1ohm 2W resistor.  Also if when you turn on B+ line does not come up to 115V disconnect pin 6 of LOPTY.  If voltage comes back reconnect and disconnect pin 10 of LOPTY.  If there is low voltage it confirmes a faulty LOPT.   These are the most common faults with this model.

QUESTION NO. P510-3:   RCA cve21110jx1 TV chassis ctc 176p2 has no power.  The power supply is okay.  I need to get the pinouts of microprocessor loc. u3101v fef # XX15053-460.
I have seen a website on the CTC175-185 chassis, which includes the CTC176 chassis.  These TV's can have tuner ground soldering problems, which can slowly DEPROGRAM the EEPROM, thus making the TV go dead, if left untreated.  I have a CTC175 which was dead when I got it, and with a new EEPROM it comes back up.   Remember, after a new EEPROM, it will have to be programmed, so have a service manual ready.  I do not think the website is in existance anymore.  Remember to find and resolder the failed tuner ground connections, before you put in the new EEPROM.   MCM electronics is really helpful in finding the part for you.

QUESTION NO. P510-4:  Sony KV 21M3 TV.  Imagen solo con color.  Sonido normal Hay seņal de crominancia en pin 29 del MC44007.  Con la entrada de seņal externa ocurre lo mismo.  Susttituido MC44007, sin solucionarse.
Sustituir y reprogramar EEPROM.

QUESTION NO. P518-10:  Magnavox 25n1 TV.  I need the value of either R406 or R408.  The component itself tests open.  The only marking on it is 1r8j 99 1w.
The value of R406 is 1.8 ohms 1w.

QUESTION NO. P 510-9:  RCA CTC187AB TV with no audio.  Also has periodic problems with picture snowing and screen shrinking from the top.  Is this a problem with the EPROM?
Remove tuner shield (lower) and repair tuner wrap.  Probably not necessary to replace eeprom.  Remove R1915 to restore audio.

QUESTION NO. P53-7:  Goldstar css6064 TV the power regulator ic str 50092 and hor.output transistor are burned and the 100micro 160 v cap also damged.   I changed all these and found 92v very high, approximately 141v.  I checked all power stage, it is ok.
In many Goldstar television chassis, the supply voltages will raise in case of open circuit in the voltage setting pot.  The pot is often sealed with some glue that creeps under the sliding contact, isolating it.  It is best to replace the pot in this case.

QUESTION NO. P426-7:  RCA ctc146 TV, no autoprogramming or manual, channels seem to momentarily lock but drift off.   Replaced tuner but no luck.   aft coil has no affect.
Here is a list of parts that I have seen cause your type of problem.   The first 4* on the list I have seen a few times.  *R3609, *C2315, *R2323, *R3609, C4135, U3100, C4122, R4125, R3602, CR4119, C3605, R2323, R2300, C2327, L2312.

QUESTION NO. P426-10:  CTC185A 19GT319 TV, fuse blows immediately.   Checked diodes & electrolytics, all checked okay.
Have you disconnected the degausser?  The degausser is a three-pronged item with a plug which takes two wires around the back of the screen.   This demagnetises the screen on switch on, if this goes faulty then it can be the cause of the fuse blowing.  1) disconnect the plug.  2) switch on if the fuse does not blow then its sorted.  3) desolder the thermister and give it a shake.   It should rattle showing it is faulty.

QUESTION NO. P419-2:  Sharp 25KN1S TV, shuts down after searching the channel.  If I disconnect to the antenna, the power is okay.  Checked all the power output from power supply all OK.
You need to check Horizontal feedback (There is a pulse from the flyback to oscilator I.C.), Horizontal frequency (15750Hz) and B+.

QUESTION NO. P331-10:  RCA CTC-157H TV has good audio, has retrace lines.  Don't know nominal R 713U, I tried adjusting the screen-no change in condition.
Try video driver transistor, similar to problem on the 169 chassis.   I think it is Q2906 near the jungle.

QUESTION NO. P411-2:  Sony kv27s10 TV, original problem was no power.  Replaced Q601, Q602, Q591 and R607.  After 5 hours it went dead again and the same parts are busted.  I checked the components around fbt and power supply section and also when it is running I checked the b+ and it is normal.
Did you de-solder the horiz driver transformer and flyback, horiz driver transistor, and output?  Clean all the lead connections, then resolder them.   Seen quite a few with hairline cracks at these connections, sometimes with corrosion on the leads of the transformers.  Use a high power magnifying glass to inspect the connections and leads.
You should have replaced R523 into .68ohm 1/2 W.  It is a bias resistor for h.o.t.
Never forget to replace three vdr, one black and two green every time you replace q601 and q602.  You also can see the vdr black burn the case of the start relay (attention 2 relay in this set).  Check also for bad capacitor is soft start circuit.

QUESTION NO. P418-3:  RCA CTC187AA TV.  I need the value of transistor Q404 on the bottom under tuner.
Q1404 #215495 Q7404 #215496 Sould be one of these items. Info via Partsfinder 2.

QUESTION NO. P324-2:  Mitsubishi CS-2610R TV; Sam's Photofact 2757-1.  There are several thin white horizontal lines at the top part of the picture, accompanied by a pulsating hum coming from the right channel speaker only (possibly an unrelated problem).   Waveforms of the Vertical output IC401 (LA7836B) seems to be ok (vertical linearity ok, no foldover, etc.) Also, a ripple waveform check at the input filter cap C953 (820 mfd) is nominal (4.2 V P-P).  After a minute of operation the pulsating hum is replaced by a lower intensity cyclic hum, without affecting the white lines at top of the picture.
Your problem is bad vertical caps.  If you have an ESR meter, you can check them, but if not, just replace them.  Most of them will be located next to the vertical IC, and will have the same prefix number as the IC401 ie caps C4**.   There will be one on the b+ line to the vert. from the HV tnsf.  It may, or may not have the same prefix number, but it will be the line that comes to the anode of the diode that is located in the vertical circuit.

QUESTION NO. P330-9:  Sony KV-1356R TV, with an intermittent sound problem.  It does not matter whether the set is cold or warm, at times when I turn it on, the sound is fine, and I can shut it off, turn it back on it is muffled and distorted.   I checked the voltages at IC 201, IC 601, they appear to be within range. However, when I do test the voltage if I just touc pin 14 of IC 201 the sound comes clear for a spilt second.  This leads me to believe that the problem is in that IC, but the picture is perfect.  All electrolytics in the circuit appear to be normal.
Re-solder the connections on !C201 & 601.

QUESTION NO. P331-6:  Emerson ts3050d TV shorts diode d512 to grd.mfg# dbooor2mo =r2m = ecg 570.  Replaced twice runs ok in shop shorts in customer's house.  Lasted 6 days the first time 2 hrs the secnd set.  Is now runing for 5 days in shop with diode removed.  Used ecg 570.  All voltages good.
The D512 is being shorted by a leaky diode or defective caps in the power supply.  Check the caps with an ESR meter, or just replace them.

QUESTION NO. P43-7:  Toshiba CF3054J TV displays symptoms of a vertical output problem.  I found the vertical section to be in working order, the problem only occurs when video input is introduced to the television.  The loss of height, three inches from the top and one inch from the bottom, is missing video and not a compressed screen.  By adjusting R352 (Height Varisistor) a full screen can be made but it is distorted.  There also is a ghost rollover on the top two inches of video.   Are these two separate problems or are they caused by the same defective component?
You have bad capacitors in the vertical circuit.  If you have an ESR meter, check them.  If not, just go ahead and replace them.  It would not be that expensive.  Most of the vert caps will be 50v or less and should be available at your local Radio Shack store.

QUESTION NO. P411-8:  Mitsubishi CK-2690R TV RA1 Chassis.   Top 3 inches of video is a few shades lighter (brighter) then the rest of the picture.  This problem does not show up all the time, and it only starts after the television has been on for over 1/2 hour.  Does not seem to be a cold solder joint.
From your description, I would think that you have some bad capacitors in the power supply, or the secondary pwr supply from the HV section.  These would cause a shaded raster.

QUESTION NO. P414-10:  Zenith SR2549S TV has a horizontal white line.  I replaced IC2100 and still have problem, but noticed R3209 burned open.   It looks a 100 ohm (Br-Bl-Br), is that correct?  Module is 9-1458-01.
R3209 is the p/s resistor for the vertical circuit.  Value is 2.2~ 1/2w. Also replace C2100 47uf @ 50v.  This is probably what caused the vert IC to short.  Also check CR3200 for leakage and C3208 2200uf @ 50v.  They will probably be OK, but they should be checked.

QUESTION NO. P412-5:  JC-Penny 685-2517 TV when turned on, all that is displayed on the screen is snow.  There is no OSD or video present.  I believe the cause of the problem is the micro-processor P/N STM-204.  I have taken all voltage measurements using the Sams Photofact series for this model TV and they all check good.  I have also taken waveform measurements and there is no signal coming form the tuner.  I also need a supplier for the micro-processor chip P/N STM-204 made by Samsung.  Upon further troubleshooting I have found that by injecting a audio/video signal into the rear audio/video input jacks on the back of the TV I get a correct signal on the CRT. Also I have found that many of the inputs to the micro-processor due work; ex volume works, channel change sounds like it works and the front panel switches such TV/video, CATV/normal switch etc. Though still with a signal applied to the RF input jack there is still no video or OSD on the CRT.
The CPU is not likely to be the problem.  The set turns on, this tells you that the CPU and standby voltages are working.  If you have audio when the set is turned on and the chan is changed, then the tuner is OK.  If not, disconnect the IF output pin at the tuner and inject an IF signal from a generator or tuner sub. into the input of the IF amp IC.  This will tell you if the problem is the tuner.  If you still have no video, check the video/luma transistors and the luma/chroma IC.

QUESTION NO. P412-1:  Toshiba CF2750K TV, vertical deflection was dropping to a single horizontal line (thermal).  I replaced the vertical output chip (an5521).  That restored the display, but it's compressed.  If I adjust the vertical display size it wraps at the top.
Locate and change the filter caps in the vertical circuit.  They will have the same prefix number as the vertical IC, ie vertical IC500, the cap number C5**.  There should be two or three next to the vertical IC and one on the P/S line that connects to the anode of the diode that is located next to the vertical.  Trace that line back to the HV transformer.  The cap here should have the same C5** number.   This should solve any linearty problems.

QUESTION NO. P320-6:  GE 13GP211A F25 13" TV instantly opening ceramic resistor RP28 ( 2.7 ohm 5w ).  I checked for shorted components, have not found any.
Check for a shorted bridge rectifier,or disconnect collector of horizontal output to eliminate h.v. ckt.

QUESTION NO. P410-6:  Sony KV32XBR96S TV which exhibits relay chatter for 2 seconds and then stops.  VDR602 and R623 get warm in that instance.   If you press power to start, there is no response.  Sony tech support recommended replacing IC651.  This did not help.  We disconnected plug G3 and loaded up the power supply with a 60watt bulb.  The bulb lights for an instance and goes out.  VDR602 and R623 continue to get warm.
The audio output IC was shorted.   Replacement fixed the problem.

QUESTION NO. P313-2:  Emerson TC1966D TV is dead.  The power relay is not energizing.  The switching transistor to the relay checks good.  I suspect the master IC is bad.  Where can I find a TMP47C434N3437?  Is there a cross reference or substitute IC?
Not likley to be the main CPU.  You probably have low stand-by voltage.  Check this by measuring the voltage on the relay.  On the coil winding you should have apx 13-15 volts.  If not there, trace this back to the stand-by pwr supply.  Check the capacitors.  The stand-by supply should furnish 5v for the CPU and switching voltage for the relay.  Also diodes and resistors in this ckt.

QUESTION NO. P329-7:  Zenith SL2784bt TV will power up and last for 15-20 minutes.  Picture then changes to blue then goes blank.  Sound is still on.
The blue gun in the picture tube has an intermittent short.  This will shut down the HV and will eventualy damage the power supply.  I have been able to remove many of these shorts with a battery zapper.  The short must be there to remove it, sometimes this takes some time to get it just right to zap it but it can be done!

QUESTION NO. P330-1:  RCA TV CTC187BD chassis has a stretched out picture.  Replaced cr4403 c4402,4403 & 4407, no change.
Go to service menu. Vertical size is adjusted at Parameter # 6.   Increase or decrease with vol up/down while in the service menu mode.  Par # 5 is Vertical centering.  You may have to adjust this to keep the picture centered.

QUESTION NO. P330-9:  Sony KV-1356R TV, with an intermittent sound problem.  It doe not matter whether the set is cold or warm, at times when I turn it on, the sound is fine, and I can shut it off, turn it back on it is muffled and distorted.   I checked the voltages at IC 201, IC 601, they appear to be within range.
